Val Carter

March 6, 1928 — January 30, 2022

Morgan

Val Henry Carter passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, in Morgan, Utah, after a long life of faith and service.  He was born on March 6, 1928, in Henefer, Utah, to Henry Samuel Carter and Edna Irene Dearden.  He was the oldest of six children.  Val married Elsie Hermine Eckersley in the Salt Lake Temple on July 1, 1954.

Val grew up in Morgan, Utah and graduated from Morgan High School in 1946.  He enlisted in the Army, but only served for a short time due to an injury sustained during training.  He then continued his education at Weber Junior College and subsequently Utah State University, graduating with a degree in Agriculture.  This eventually led to long career with the Bureau of Reclamation that took him to places near and far, including Brazil, Peru and even Somalia.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Val was called on a mission to Brazil in 1951, serving nearly 3 years.  This began a life of service that included serving together with his wife Hermine as mission president in Billings Montana and Missionary Training Center president in Sao Paulo Brazil on two occasions.

Val is survived by four sisters (Anna Porter, Linda DeGroot, Ina Davis and Betty Holman); two sons and their spouses, Sterling (Linda) and Nathan (Shirley); five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother (Keith), a brother-in-law (Keith Porter) and a grandchild (Linley).

We would like to thank the Family Tree Assisted Living staff for all their support and making Val’s last years so comfortable.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Rock Church Morgan 3rd Ward Chapel (10 West Young Street).
