Romona Dickson

December 23, 1936 — April 28, 2020

Morgan

Our beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother, Romona Thackeray Dickson, went back to her heavenly home on April 28, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace Emanuel Thackeray and Margaret Dell Burnett Thackeray, her siblings Roy Thackeray, George Thackeray, William Thackeray, Ralph Thackeray, Samuel Thackeray, Renee Thackeray, and her son Murry Paul Dickson.

Romona was born on December 23, 1936 in Ogden, Utah and was raised in Croydon, Utah. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Horace and Margaret Thackeray. She is survived by her husband Paul, her children Denzil Dickson (Judy), Dell Loveless (Mark), Stuart Dickson, and her beloved honorary children Julie Marley, Amy Miller, and Larry Wiggill.

On May 9, 1958 Romona married her sweetheart, Paul Dickson, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. He has loved her everyday since then for nearly 62 years, and she has loved him right back. One of their most treasured memories (besides raising their children) was serving an 18 month mission together in the Ogden Inner City Mission.

Romona was an amazing homemaker. She always tried to keep her house clean and in order so it would be welcoming to anyone. She enjoyed making [the best] apple pies, bread, and rolls.  She skillfully canned produce from Paul’s beautiful garden. She could also sew and craft incredibly well, but what really made Romona’s house a home was her love and devotion to all who entered.

Romona left a legacy of service to her children. They remember their mother taking a hot meal, twice a day for 5 years, to their neighbor with Parkinson’s disease. She also loved serving in her callings. Her favorite calling was serving as a primary teacher. She would plan her lessons weeks in advance because she loved her primary class so much. She loved serving her family by hosting Christmas parties, having backyard picnics, playing marbles with the grandkids, and just calling to check in and share her love.

If Romona could be described in a single word, it would be devoted. She was devoted to the Lord, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and most of all she was devoted to her sweetheart Paul. We know her devotion won’t end with her passing. She will continue to be our devoted angel.

Due to restrictions because of the current virus, the funeral will be held at a future date.
