Myron W Davis (Dr. “D”)

Thank You for 1943-1996

And A Special Thanks for 1996-2022 Extended Tomorrows

Thank you : To my Mother (Jessie Tunbridge) and Father (Alma) for introducing, by example, the need to establish my own long white line of integrity. To my extended family in Levan, Utah for putting a purpose behind a strong work ethic. To my rowdy friends for teaching me to look after one another when walking on the wild side. To Dr. Burton Gee (math, physical science teacher), Hugh Rush (speech teacher) and Boyd Jensen (lawyer and spiritual leader) for caring enough to adjust my compass and impress upon me the value of providing service and developing empathy for others. To the Army (combat engineers) for impressing upon on me there are careers I should not pursue. To my brother (Randy) for helping me realize some bridges are extremely difficult to maintain. To my grizzly bear nephews (Scott, Mark and Steve) for motivating me to embrace the martial arts as a means to survive their need to demonstrate extreme physical aggression.

To all those I interacted with as an undergraduate (Utah State and Weber State Universities) whose behavior (exemplars and antipodes) impressed upon me that wisdom prepares the long white line; integrity enables you to traverse it. To the students, colleagues, clients, athletes and parents (T.H. Bell Junior High and the Deseret Gymnasium in Salt Lake and Ogden) for the opportunity to teach math, coach gymnastics and swimming as well as provide fitness and sports activities, courses and competition. To Indiana University for providing an NDEA Fellowship allowing me to study Biomechanics, Statistics and Measurement Theory, earn both my Masters and Doctorate as well as a path to a successful career in higher education (Georgia Southern University, University of Utah, Weber State University) as a professor and administrator. To all of the students and colleagues (staff, faculty, administrators) who made an everlasting contribution to my mission in life allowing me to serve, teach, research, publish and be recognized for the outcomes that were primarily due to the collaboration of others. To my dear friend Bob Deboer (deceased) for the major role he played in helping secure the funding for a student oriented sport, fitness and recreation complex including a state-of-the-art human performance lab. To the Powder Mountain staff for helping me earn the “Black Diamond Mole Man Award” for spending more time underneath the snow than on top of it! To Dennis Wilkins, Byron Anderson, Gordon James, Mike VanderSys and my wife for their assistance in developing, promoting and facilitating SCOPE Displayed Thought Management, Inc.  To Melanie Pyle for partnering with me to develop and provide a high level performance center for young aspiring athletes as well as elite athletes.  To the dedicated staff, students and faculty who helped create, obtain funding and provide an employee wellness program as well as a student wellness program.

To my daughter (Shaundra) and son (Shane) for being so coachable and enabling me to have delusional thoughts of being a fairly good parent.  To my empathetic, beautiful, creative and talented daughter (dancer, craftswoman, interior decorator, medical assistant, homemaker) for being an outstanding mother and always doing her best to serve others as well as her father and never thinking it was enough. To my incredible, humble, kind and successful son (Harley and Has Been Cadillac man, mechanic, home renovator, property management executive, my confidant) for always being willing to serve his friends and those in need, including his father, and to include the same in rowdy road trips and quasi in depth conversations with his biker club and friends wherever our rides would take us.  To both my children for always volunteering to help and rarely having to be asked.  To my beloved granddaughter (Keira) for working with me to develop and focus on our North Stars and making it back home and stepping up with Kurt Ostrander to care for her Papou and my wife during our fading rainbow. To Tracy (deceased),Teri, Toni, Tricia, Travis and Tyler for support they have given to their compassionate mother and my precious wife. To my dear step-grandchildren (Elsa, Rylan, Kazdyn, Christopher, Ashley) for allowing an old man to occasionally play in their world. To our canine companions (3-Pals, Snuffles, Chemo, Chaka, Gus, Bubba, Saydee, Aphrodite, Erebus, Sasha, Boomer, Cooper, Harley) for their unconditional love and attention. To Brenda, my beautiful, creative, talented, spiritual and compassionate wife of 36 years (dancer, teacher, choreographer), best friend (50+ yrs), dance partner (30+yrs), fitness instructor partner and co-presenter (30+ yrs) and soul mate for sharing her unconditional love and spiritual guidance as well as taking time to dance with me while we navigated the ramifications of being so much in love.

And a Special Thanks: To my relentless companion “Big C” for impressing upon me, beginning in 1985, the need to be humble and accepting of the empathy and compassion of others. To the major procedures/therapies, chemo, radiation, infusions, cardiac ablations, pacemaker/defibrillators, spinal blocks and ablations for putting my ego in its proper place. To my sister (JoAnne) for sharing her stem cells enabling me to enjoy extended tomorrows. To the physicians, their medical personnel and facilities (Dr. Vincent Hansen, Dr. William Riley and LDS Hospital - eighth floor providers, Dr. Carolyn Belfry, Dr. Kahldon Al-Rayess, Dr. Peter Forestall, Dr. Wilford Maughan, Dr. Tyler Christensen, Dr. Fahed Tanvir, Dr. Kirsten Baca) for the extraordinary care and compassion provided during my bone marrow/stem cell transplant and all the complications that followed. To my family, extended family, Rosehill neighbors, Mountain Green/Morgan County communities, To the too numerous to mention University students, staff, faculty, administrators (WSU, USU, UofU, BYU) for playing a significant role (physical, mental, spiritual, financial) in helping extend my life. To the awesome individuals who provided countless hours of support, service, words of wisdom and compassion to help this humbled heathen and, as of late, somewhat infirm curmudgeon (My Family, Tim & Carol Ruden, Tom Low and family, Maryanne & Larry Brewer, Ted Taylor, Steve & Kim Wright and family, Molly Smith, David Greene, Frayne, Dana Spense & sons, Connie & Mark Johnson, Karl Reeder, Chuck Linford, Jeff Mahan, Jim and Bonnie Lochner, Chris & Amber Fritz, Molly Smith, Dana Rossi Palmer, Carol Kimball, JoAnn Otte, Judi & Mike Bourne, Keith & Julie Henschen, Richard & Colleen Gordon, Barbara West, Janet Thurgood, Margaret Hawks, Natalie Hutchison, Hanalee Hemmersmeier, Kap Chul Lim, Il Lim, Sharon Beck, Kurt Ostrander, Mark, Ashlyn and Shayla Wright).

Now that I have completed the last chapter of this wonderful and challenging life, I am truly thankful to all of those who provided the metal enabling me to endure. Unable to always ride slick in the saddle or motorcycle seat, my life was full of extremes - ecstasy to agony, far too many bad choices - knowingly and unknowingly, numerous regrets - intentional and unintentional, almost unimaginable love experiences with my wife and children, numerous achievements - planned and unplanned, and way too many accolades and honors that should have included the names of those who enabled me.

Brenda, Shane, Shaundra, Keira and Aria: You have been my primary reason for being. My love for you became unconditional and I will carry my love for you with me.  Thank you for enduring my journey and enriching my life. Finally, Aria thank you for providing so much joy during my last days.
