American Veteran 04

Milan Mecham

August 11, 1947 ~ October 30, 2021 (age 74)

Milan Earl Mecham passed away surrounded by his family on October 30, 2021 in Morgan, Utah after a courageous fight with cancer from exposure to agent orange while serving our country in Vietnam.

Milan was born August 11, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Earl “Spike” Mecham and Bette Thurston.  He grew up in Morgan, Utah on a dairy farm where he learned a great work ethic and a love for agriculture.  He graduated from Morgan High School, where he excelled in many sports and received his Bachelor and Master’s degree from Weber State University in Education.

On June 9, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan McMillan in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent the past 54 years together. In 1970, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1972.  He continued his service up until his last days with the local VFW Post 6154 and loved all of his Veteran friends.  Milan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings, but his favorite by far was scouting.  Where he served for over 40+ years and received the Silver Beaver Award.  He and Susan served as inner city service missionaries in Ogden, Utah.  He was employed by the Morgan School District for 31 years, he touched the lives of hundreds of students with his love of history and music.  He will be remembered most by his guitar and singing, as well as his Mountain Man Day.  He was recognized in 2002, with the Karen J. Ashton Storytelling Award given during the Weber State University Storytelling Festival.

Milan is survived by his sweetheart Susan: Sons, Matt (Julie) and Zac Mecham both of Morgan; daughters Hali (Bart) Fearn of Morgan and Misti Mecham of St. George, Utah; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ned (Gayla) Mecham of Morgan.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marni; both his parents; his in-laws Raymond and Ruby McMillan and one sister-in-law Cyndy Carver.

Dad we are going to miss you most on branding day, working the cows, hay season, hunting and pack trips, family parties and singing with your guitar!  You were and will always be the patriarch of our family.  We love you!
