Lawrence "Larry" Hatch

July 10, 1938 — November 16, 2021

Lawrence (Larry) Martin Hatch, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021 at age 83.  His loving wife Wilma Hatch was there and they were surrounded by their children.  There was a chance for everyone to say goodbye after which he slipped gently away.

Larry was born on July 10, 1938 at which time he joined a large family himself.  He grew up surrounded by 10 sisters and 1 brother.  He was born in Woods Cross, Utah but his family soon moved to Weiser, Idaho where Larry graduated from High School.

As a young boy Larry had a natural interest in the business aspects of farming.  He showed a natural tendency toward entrepreneurialism as well.  He had successes and failures.  His venture with a large strawberry field didn’t turn out so well, but he had a very successful rabbit operation and sold hundreds of rabbits to local butcher shops.  Larry would eventually merge his early lessons with a degree in Agricultural Economics which led to a very successful career as a fieldman, helping farmers to raise successful crops.

Larry loved his country and served in the military, first in the National Guard in High School and then in the Army where he spent time in France in the early 1960’s.

Soon after returning home he met the love of his life, Wilma Hawker and on November 21, 1962 they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple and quickly moved to Provo, Utah where Larry finished his education at Brigham Young University and embarked on his career.

Larry continued to serve the community through active participation in politics as well as service in the Boy Scouts of America.  Not only did Larry help dozens of young men achieve the rank of Eagle, but he himself achieved the rank of Silver Beaver for his service as a leader.

Larry was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Early in his life he served as a Branch President in the small town of Sweet, Idaho.  A few years later he served as bishop when he accepted a job at the White Satin Sugar company and moved his family to Nyssa Oregon.  Later, joined by his eternal partner Wilma, he served 3 separate missions.  Their first was a ward mission.  Their second mission was an inner-city mission in Ogden, Utah.  Their third and final mission was in Flagstaff, Arizona where they worked with the Native American people.    They also served 3 years as temple workers in the Ogden temple.

Larry had a great sense of humor, often he was the life of the party and enjoyed good natured pranks.  He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Larry is survived by his 9 children and their spouses, Riley, Todd & Monie, Jennifer & Bruce, Gregory, Thomas & Heidi, Andrew & Suzy, Cynthia & Scott, Edward & Jill and Eric.   He is also survived by 36 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
