Kent McMichael

October 9, 1937 — March 9, 2022

Hoytsville

Kent Orial McMichael was born October 9, 1937 in Hoytsville, Utah to William (Pat) Leroy McMichael and Norma McMichael.  He grew up on the family farm with his two brothers, Scott and Roy and his sister, Norma Lee.

He learned the importance of being a good steward of the land through farming, hunting and fishing from his dad and grandfather. They taught him how to care for livestock, prepare the land for planting and being willing to work hard to bring in the harvest.

Kent graduated from North Summit High school in 1955. Then on August 23, 1957 he married and was sealed to his high school sweet heart, Helen Marie Welch, in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.

They started raising their family Porterville Utah where most of their boys were born. At that time he worked for Marquardt Aerospace in Ogden Utah where his was able to work on the guidance jets for the Apollo missions to the moon. When the company moved to southern California, he declined to go. Instead opting to go back into farming full time.

He moved his family to a dairy farm in Montpelier Idaho to try his hand at dairy farming. He quickly learned that the dairy farm was not for him. He then moved his family to a grain farm in Rockland Idaho where he set about improving the farm to be able to support his family. Unfortunately in 1982 while working at a grain elevator in American Falls, he was knocked of a set of scaffolding and fell about 12 feet down and landed on his heels, breaking both at the time.  Unknown to him and the doctors, he had also ruptured 6 disks in his lower back.  The bones healed but his back would haunt him for the rest of his life.

After re-training to become a jeweler, he moved his family from Rockland back to Hoystville Utah where they resided for the next 38 years. He worked for a jewelry store in Park City Utah for about four years. He then had the opportunity to work for the Utah Department of Transpiration as a port of entry officer until he retired in 2001.

He loved to be in the mountains treasure hunting and spending time with his boys, especially on fishing trips.  Dad always hooked the biggest fish weather he got it in or not.  That’s just how he was.

Dad loved his family and would do anything for them. His loving wife, Marie; His boys, David (Carol) McMichael, Don (Jana) McMichael, Kevin McMichael, Brett (Carol) McMichael and Alan (Carrie) McMichael. 13 grandkids and 9 great grandkids.

Dad passed away peacefully at home, in his sleep on March 9, 2022.
