Jack Palmer

April 16, 1927 — January 6, 2021

Morgan

Jack LaMarr Palmer was born in Ruth, Nevada, on April 16, 1927, the third of six children of Arthur and Florence Palmer. His father was a miner and they moved frequently, in fact too many times to name all of them.

Jack’s early education was in Wyoming, where his family built a two-story log cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. The school teacher had to lodge with them for the entire winter because they were snowed in, until it melted in spring. He attended 6th through 9th grades in Gardner, Montana while they lived in the small mining town of Jardine, Montana. When World War ll  broke out, the mine was closed down and his family moved to Boulder City, Nevada, where he finished high school.

After school Jack was drafted into the Army and he became a surgical technician at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California.  After Jack was discharged, he went to school in San Francisco for a short time.  Later he moved to Salt Lake City Utah and enrolled at LDS business College where he took accounting classes.

Jack’s first marriage was to Shirley Maloney in 1947. They had one child named Connie born in 1948. Later in 1948 Shirley died from injuries received in a tragic house fire in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In the course of time Jack met Betty Campbell in one of his English classes. They became better acquainted and started dating, which led to their marriage on October 10, 1949.  They first settled in Salt Lake City and then moved to Ogden for a short time before moving to Morgan, Utah in 1962. They have resided in Morgan for the past 58 years, Betty passed away on Feb. 23, 2014. Jack and Betty had 4 Children Terry, Kathie, Julie and Steven.

He worked for many years at Hill Air Force Base until his retirement in 1988. Jack and family enjoyed camping, fishing, and water ski-ing. After their children were raised, Jack and Betty spent much of their summers with friends and family in Oregon and Washington salmon fishing.  They especilaly enjoyed their time at their property in Gustavus, Alaska with family and friends fishing for halibut.

Jack and Betty faithfully served 3 full time LDS missions; they also served in the Ogden LDS temple for seven years.

Jack is survived by his brother Joe Palmer, Phoenix Az; two sons and three daughters Connie (Curtis) Worden, Morgan, UT; Terry (Annette) Palmer, Clearfield UT; Kathie (Lem) Walters, Odessa TX; Julie (Matthew) Thomson, Evanston, Wy;  Steven (Lauri) Palmer Rigby, Id.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and his wife Betty; parents Arthur and Florence Palmer; three sisters Betty Palmer, LaVee Reeves and Mary Lou Lee; three grandchildren April (Pentz) Jones, Joshua Pentz, and Terry Ray Palmer.

Jack is loved and missed by many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
