Gordon H. Stephens

July 6, 1935 ~ May 19, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Gordon Herbert Stephens, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 19, 2021 at the age of 85.

Gordon was born in Salt Lake City on July 6, 1935 to Calvin and Edna Stephens. Gordon attended East High in Salt Lake City and later graduated from North Summit High School. He married the love of his life, Fawn Ovard, on October 8th, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Gordon was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served in many callings. He loved reading the Book of Mormon and teaching the gospel.

The greatest accomplishment and joy in his life was his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Tamera (Joe) Thomas, Kenneth (Isabel), Lance (Carey), Dallan (Valerie) and Rochelle (Ari) Hunsaker, 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother, Keith Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his wife Fawn, parents, and his siblings: Donna, Dale, and Brent.

They also had the privilege of having in their home, through the LDS Church Indian placement program, Pauline Mooring and Karen Benn.

Gordon moved from Salt Lake City to the Stephens ranch in Henefer at the young age of 16 and lived there alone, running the ranch for his father, until he married Fawn. Gordon married Fawn at the tender age of 19. Fawn was 17. They were inseparable in life as they are now in heaven.

Gordon attended Weber State College in Chemistry and retired from the Devil’s Slide Cement plant after 40+ years of service.

Gordon had a work ethic that was only matched by his humor. He was an accomplished writer having penned a Christmas Story that is a legend in our family and required reading every Christmas Eve. He loved the outdoors, family parties, James Bond movies, popcorn, and the “Ranch”. Many friends can remember him with a garden hose in the middle of the night, during winter, building a community skating rink in our backyard. He taught us, inspired our testimony of the gospel, and made sure we understood the real meaning of Family.

We wish to thank all those who assisted in so many ways as his health declined. We would also like to offer a special note of thanks to the Staff at Family Tree Assisted Living, in Morgan, for their loving care.

Funeral services for Gordon will be held Wednesday May 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Henefer LDS Church. A viewing for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service, starting at 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Interment will be at the Henefer cemetery.
