Gary Carter

September 18, 1939 — March 21, 2022

Morgan

Gary Valdean Carter, age 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2022.  He was born to Linden Chester Carter and Alta Mary Garner Carter on September 18, 1939, at the family home in Porterville, Utah.

Gary graduated from Morgan High School in 1957 and attended Weber State College.  He joined the United States Air Force Reserve in 1962 and served his country for 13 years.  He ended his service as a Master Sergeant in 1975.

Gary left the sights of the highways from the windows of a semi-truck, partnering with his brother, Blair Carter, and started a career at Hill Air Force Base (HAFB) as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic in the Air Force Reserve ART Program.  He transferred to the F-4 TCG Foreign Military Sales arena where he enjoyed traveling, on a regular basis, to eleven foreign countries.  Gary retired in 1993 after working for Civil Service for 30 years.

He was raised on a farm of over 250 acres, he enjoyed horses, cows, cattle, and running farming equipment.  He would say “You can take the boy off the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the boy.”  After he retired from the Civil Service, he continued to enjoy farming during the summer months for his brother-in-law, Dee Waldron.  He was told by a local farmer that his drill rows were straighter than anyone else’s in the county.  “From my tractor seat, I developed a reverence for the beautiful mountains that surrounded me.  I enjoyed the company of the hawks, deer, rabbits, and other wildlife.  I love this beautiful Morgan Valley.  What a blessing to have lived here most of my life.”  Gary Valdean Carter

Gary met Jeanine Waldron at a high school dance.  They both had a love for dancing, horseback riding, and the great outdoors.  He married the love of his life in the Salt Lake Temple on December 4, 1964, and built a home in Richville, Morgan, Utah where they raised their family. They enjoyed traveling and were able to visit all 50 states and several foreign countries.  As Youth for Understanding (YFU) Field Managers, they were able to stay with several of the YFU Foreign Exchange students that they had previously placed in northern Utah homes.

Gary faithfully served in many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishoprics and the Morgan Stake High Council.  For several years Gary and Jeanine were Stake Dance Directors and loved working with the youth.  They also served a mission at Heber Valley Camp and were temple ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple.

Gary is survived by his wife Jeanine, daughter Lynette Jensen, son Nolan (Darcy) Carter, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, brother Blair Carter, and sister Sharel Howard.  Gary was proceeded in death by his son Valdean Gary Carter, parents, and sister Kay Wilde.

The family would like to thank all those who helped with his care.  Especially his sister-in-law Christine Andrews.
