Gail Sanders

Gail Cleon Sanders passed away peacefully at his home on September 21, 2020. He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1926 in Nephi, Utah and was 93 years old at the time of his death. He is the eldest son of Cleon and Velma Sanders.

Gail was married and sealed to Doris Elaine Carter in the Logan Temple on August 23, 1950. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Doris is his eternal sweetheart that he loved unconditionally and wanted by his side continually. They have 7 children, 33 grandchildren, and 58 great grandchildren.

Gail was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a strong testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ and the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. As a result, he faithfully served in many church callings including, Bishop, Stake Presidency, Mission President of the Indiana, Indianapolis Mission, President of the Missionary Training Center in England, and Sealer in the Ogden Temple. His testimony, teachings, and inspiration has blessed and influenced many.

Gail was also active in many civic responsibilities in the city of Riverdale.  He served 5 years on the Riverdale City Council and 8 years as Mayor of Riverdale City.

Gail was always a great example of the benefits of hard work. He was a Chemistry teacher at Bonneville High School for several years and retired as president of Sander’s Brine Shrimp Company. He was a great influence on the gathering and processing of the brine shrimp from the Great Salt Lake.

Gail also loved to work with his hands and use his creativity through stained glass and woodworking. He loved to give away and share the beautiful things he created.

Gail is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother (Dorothy Sanders) one son (Bruce Cleon Sanders), one daughter-in-law (Cheryl Davies Sanders), and one grandson (Rykar Jay Sanders). He is survived by his loving wife Doris, and his children Charlotte Garner, Jolene (Dan) Bell, Rick (Brenda) Sanders, Craig (Kelly) Sanders, Gaylene (Bill) Bateman, and Cory (Kristy) Sanders. He is also survived by his sister Cleoma (Kenith) Allen and five brothers Jerry (Helen) Sanders, Larry (Sally) Sanders, Sterling (Ann) Sanders, Steven (Dyanne) Sanders, and David (Luann) Sanders.

The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice and Corey (Little C) Blonquist for their special help and care.

A viewing will be held Sunday, Sept 27, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan, Ut.  A funeral service for family members only will be held Monday, September 28, 2020 at the Porterville LDS Chapel, 2700 S Morgan Valley Drive, Morgan Utah, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Morgan South Cemetery.
