Bruce Rigby

October 9, 1933 ~ August 27, 2020 (age 86)

Obituary

Bruce Eldro Rigby, 86. Our dear father, brother, and grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on August 27, 2020. He joined his dear wife, MaryAnn, who passed away August 31, 2012.

Bruce was born in Hinckley, Utah October 9, 1933 to parents Zina Lunt and Eldro Verl Rigby. Bruce grew up in Cedar City, Utah where he graduated from high school and started college. This is where he was taught the value of hard work that served him all his life as he blessed people with service and a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Bruce, from a young age worked around the farm and in the mountains. Bruce has always loved being in the mountains. His love of the outdoors is where he always found great happiness. This love has also been passed down to his children. We’ll very much miss sitting around a campfire listening to his wonderful stories.

Bruce met Mary Ann Palmer, fell in love, and they were married December 2, 1953. In 1954, he was drafted into the Army. He was later stationed on Staten Island, New York, where they made a home until his discharge in 1956. After they moved back to Cedar City, Bruce eventually got into the propane gas industry. After a few moves, he ended up in Flagstaff Arizona where his children did most of their growing up. After a few years of managing a concrete plant, the propane business took him back to Utah where he lived in Moab and finally Coalville. Bruce was elected Mayor of Coalville for a term, again being in the service of others.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he loved the work that was asked of him. He filled many positions, and was always in the service of helping everyone. In Flagstaff, he was called to go out on the reservation and serve among the people there. We can tell you he loved those people with all his heart. He loved the gospel, and took great care to be at all his family’s blessings, ordinations, and church callings.

Bruce is survived by 4 children, Kirk (Becky), North Ogden; Lynette Haycock (Woody), Escalante; Mark, Elko, NV; Dave, Moab; 15  grandchildren, 28  great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one sister, Sharon Jones (Dwane, dec.), and two brothers, Warren (Ardis), and Floyd (Claire).
