Betty Crittenden

June 25, 1926 ~ April 4, 2021 (age 94)

Obituary

Betty June Crittenden, 94, passed away in her sleep on April 4, 2021; waking up in heaven on Easter morning. She had not been ill, but had suffered a lot of pain from a bone on bone knee. She often said, “If I had a good leg, I’d be perfect.”

She married Lloyd Crittenden on November 7, 1944. They were sealed with their children in the Salt Lake Temple on April 9, 1958. Her husband Lloyd, passed away in 2006, following a stroke in 2000. Betty cared for him at home for three years, and drove to Ogden nearly daily to be with him at a Care Center for three more years.

She was born and raised in Coalville where she spent most of her life. She was born June 25, 1926 in Coalville to Orville and Grace Randall. Her mother died when Betty was almost 12 and she became the mother to brothers Harold and George, and a sister Kaye. She said she would never have children. Nevertheless, she has three children: Alan (Susan) Crittenden, Coral (Danny) Oram, and Valerie (Mike) Walton-Crittenden. She has 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was an excellent seamstress winning sweepstakes at county and state fairs. She was a very social person, and loved visiting with people. She served for several years on the Coalville City Council and also chaired dozens of blood drives in Coalville and surrounding communities. She highly valued education and taught many to sew in 4-H. Serving well into her nineties; she went to the County Jail and taught inmates how to crochet. She also had several women come to her home weekly to learn to sew. She was very health-minded, and firmly believed in exercise. She faithfully went to the gym at North Summit High School 5-6 days a week. She made many friends there and sorely missed those social contacts when the Corona Virus guidelines stopped that activity.

She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught Guide Patrol for many years. She also served as a Primary President, Visiting Teacher, and Visiting Teaching supervisor until recently. She loved flowers and it was a sad day for her when she could no longer mow her lawn “the right way”.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11 am at the Coalville Stake Chapel.  A viewing will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 and Monday from 10 to 10:45 am at the church in Coalville.

Interment will be at the Coalville Cemetery.
