Walter Neal Boyce, our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Born on December 4, 1946, in Sacramento, California, Neal was the son of Leo Neal and Carma V. Perry. As a young boy growing up on ranches in Colorado and Arizona, he developed a lifelong love for the land, animals, and the ranching life. His dream of owning his own farm was fulfilled later in life, bringing him immense pride and joy. Being surrounded by his dogs and horses was one of his greatest pleasures.
Neal had a deep sense of adventure and a passion for learning new things. He enjoyed fishing, rappelling, ham radio, hunting, metal detecting, and camping—always planning and preparing for his next great outing.
He graduated from high school in Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1965. In March of 1966, he chose to enlist in the U.S. Army, serving honorably in Vietnam until 1969. During his service, he was part of a Special Forces unit and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.
After his military service, Neal worked in construction for many years, eventually becoming the proud owner of Boyce Construction, all while maintaining and working his farm. He also served his community as President of the Richville Ditch Company and President of Secondary Water.
On June 3, 1977, Neal married Carol Ann Richins. With this union, he became a devoted father to her daughter, Christine Nelson. Their family grew with the births of their daughters, Jennifer Neal and Jodi Ann.
Neal loved his family and friends fiercely. He expressed his love more through his actions than his words and lived his life unapologetically on his own terms.
He is survived by his children, Christine (Steve), Jennifer (Michael), and Jodi (Mauricio); 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Boyce, and his parents, Leo Neal Boyce and Carma Boyce.
