He attended Albion State Normal College and Utah State.

Kent married the love of his life, Colleen Smith, on January 6, 1950. They were sealed together for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

He loved farming and even after trying other professions, the farm always called him back. He was nominated for Farmer of the Year. In 1979 he was awarded the Outstanding Cooperator for his accomplishment in the conservation of soil, water and related resources. He served for 10 years on the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. In 1990 he received the Quality Bonus Award from the Western Diarymen Cooperative. He loved cutter racing and took the Quarter Horse Fiturity championship. Kent and Colleen also had the opportunity to manage a dairy and horse farm in upstate New York. There Kent was able to work with race horses and traveled to South Carolina and Kentucky and raced at the Belmont Racing Track.

Kent loved the outdoors and hunting. He and his sons loved spending time hunting, including a trip to Alaska with his son, Kirk, many trips to the Wind Rivers, a once in a life-time moose hunt and a trip with Sid, Kirk and Mitch to hunt wild sheep.

Kent was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church, including serving with the scouts, the Elders Quorum President, the High Priest Group Leader and served as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple.
