Velma Nellie Voss Simmons, 86, died Friday, May 18, 2007 in Ogden, Utah.

She was born April 3, 1921 in Morgan, Utah to Joseph Harrison and Nellie Rebecca Creager Voss.

Velma married John Edward Simmons in 1941. They were later divorced.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Morgan 3rd Ward. She had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Young Women Teacher, as a Counselor in the Ward Relief Society, as the Stake Relief Society Secretary, Ward Librarian and a Visiting Teacher.

Velma graduated from Morgan High School in 1940. She had worked as a waitress at Hopkin's CafAC., at Como Springs Skating Rink and at Hill Air Force Base as a Postal Office Supervisor. She belonged to an Ogden Women's Bowling Travel League, various Morgan bowling leagues and was a Utah Jazz and a New York Yankees fan. She attended a Yankee and Anaheim Angel game in California in 1961.

She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed their visits.

Surviving are two daughters, Joan S. (CarDell) Mortensen and Connie S. Nance, both of Morgan; six grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Betty Jean Voss, Layton, Utah; one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Van; one sister, Berlie; and one son-in-law, Bernard Nance.

We would like to thank Apple Village Assisted Living and Washington Terrace Health Services for their tender loving care of our mother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at the Morgan Stake Chapel. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the church.

Interment, South Morgan Cemetery.
