Val Dearden

February 24, 1931 — November 11, 2015

Val James Dearden passed away on November 11th, 2015 in Henefer, Utah at his home, after a struggle with Alzheimer's.  He was born in Henefer, Utah on February 24th, 1931 to David O. and Ruby Frances Owen Dearden.  He graduated from North Summit High School in 1949.  He met Marlene Sabey in early 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah and they were married on September 7th of that year in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Together they had four children whom they raised in Henefer, Utah.

Val worked for many years as a sheep rancher.  Later he worked as a custodian and a school bus driver until his retirement.  Val was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings through the years.  His service in the Ogden LDS Temple as an ordinance worker for twelve years was a capstone of his church service.  This experience which he shared with his wife Marlene was a great joy to him.  Val had a firm testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ.  He was a dedicated and wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy was found in serving and supporting his loved ones and friends.

Val is survived by his wife Marlene, children Lynn V. (Natalie), Roland Kevin (Suzanne), Valarie (Kevin) Beenfield, Lori Ann (Robert) Gibbs, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a brother David Kenneth (Joan) and a sister-in-law Marion Dearden.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Melvin O.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Encompass hospice staff and nurses.  They also express a special thank you to Cindy McGehee for her countless hours of care.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 15th at the Henefer Ward LDS chapel from 6-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held Monday, November 16th at 11 a.m. at the Henefer Ward LDS chapel with a viewing prior to the service from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.  Condolences may be shared online at walker-mortuary.com.
