Todd Stewart Carlson

June 17, 1946 — October 20, 2023

Morgan

After a year-long battle with cancer, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Todd Stewart Carlson, passed away peacefully in his home on October 20, 2023, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his wife and their four children, many grandchildren, and his beloved dog Baxter.

Todd was born on June 17, 1946, to Stewart Lester and Cherrill (Johnson) Carlson in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1964. He was called to serve in the Northern Indian mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved serving the Indigenous people and even returned to the reservation later in his life. Todd served in the National Guard for six years. He met his wife of 52 years, Shauna (Thomson), on a blind date. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 17, 1971 - his birthday.

Todd was a spiritual person and had a strong testimony of Christ's church. He was an active member and held the Melchizedek Priesthood. Todd fulfilled many callings and spent his life serving others. He later served a mission with Shauna for six years at the Manor Branch in Ogden, Utah.

Todd loved the outdoors, finding peace and contentment viewing the mountains that graced his backyard in Porterville, Utah. One of his greatest joys was camping and fishing with family, having a special fondness for trips to Island Park, Idaho. Camping was even better with his famous sourdough biscuits and scones. Todd was also an avid skier. He and his wife Shauna skied while dating and after they were married. Todd taught all four of his children to ski at an early age and was still skiing weekly with his children and grandchildren the winter before his diagnosis with cancer. Todd loved supporting his grandchildren; he attended many dance recitals, sporting events, and theater performances. He loved making Swedish pancakes for breakfast when the grandkids slept over.

Professionally, Todd was a highly skilled welder and pipefitter. After retiring, he found joy in passing on his knowledge by teaching welding at the Utah Career Center. He was a mechanical genius who could fix or build just about anything; and always did for family, friends, and neighbors.

Todd is survived by his wife Shauna, sister Gail Stoddard, brother Brad (Elizabeth) Carlson, and sister Stacy (Mike) Hurst. He also leaves behind his son Ryan (Shauna) Carlson, South Jordan; daughter Rachelle (Matt) Hadley, Woods Cross; daughter Brooke (Phillip) Noble, Riverdale; daughter Kali (Austin) Brooks, Star, Idaho; and fifteen grandchildren that he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Paul Thomson, Mother-in-Law LuRene Thomson, his brother-in-law Gary Stoddard, and his niece Kristen Thomson with whom he had a special bond.

His legacy is one of love for his family and friendship with everyone he met. If you knew Todd, you knew he always had a story to tell.
