Terry Clawson

January 21, 1947 — May 2, 2023

Mountain Green

Terry D. Clawson passed away May 2, 2023, in Mountain Green, Utah, after a valiant battle with cancer. Throughout his ordeal, he was in the loving care of his youngest daughter Jamie Rogers. Terry was born January 21, 1947, in Hyrum, Utah, to Derwood L. and Sarabeth Mackay Clawson.  He was the oldest of six children, four brothers and one sister.  As a youth, Terry was active in scouting and worked hard to receive his Eagle Scout. Terry enjoyed life and especially the outdoors. On any given weekend you would find him fishing, hunting, camping, 4-wheeling, or golfing. Whether with his brothers, friends, and later his own family, he was always involved in one or more of these activities. Terry was in the very first graduating class of Skyview High School in Smithfield, Utah, where he was involved with the band playing the French Horn. He also had some expertise in piano.

After graduating high school in 1965, Terry felt the need to serve his Father in Heaven and served an honorable mission in New York City. After this service, he attended Utah State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders, and master’s degrees in Audiology. Later in life he decided to earn a Doctorate and was awarded the degree from AT Still University. Terry met the love of his life, Noreen Smith, while attending Sky View High School. Upon returning from his mission, he married Noreen Smith in the Logan LDS Temple on June 12, 1969. Terry and Noreen were blessed with three children, Tyler, Jennifer (Jenni), and Jamie, and 5 grandchildren.

After graduating from USU, Terry worked in his field of expertise for Davis School District and retired after 30 years. During the summers, he was not idle, but formed a small construction company with a friend. They worked very hard plastering foundations on newly constructed homes throughout Davis County. Terry also worked in some doctors of audiology practices, and soon opened a private practice of his own, working with various doctors in the area.  He later took on his son-in-law Kerry Braunberger as a partner, forming EarTech Audiology. He never truly retired, but continued working at his practice until his health, because of the cancer, deteriorated to the point that he could no longer do that which he loved.

Terry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. In his Mountain Green Ward, he served in various callings, but his favorite was Scout Master.  He loved working with the youth and spent many hours with them camping and helping them to become better scouts, citizens, and responsible individuals.

Terry was preceeded in death by his parents, Derwood and Sarabeth Clawson, brother Kevin Clawson (Charlene), son Tyler (Amie Chere’), daughter Jenni (Kerry Shaun Braunberger), and sister-in-law Raeleene (Shyrl). He is survived by his loving wife Noreen, daughter Jamie, and 5 grandchildren, Spencer Daniel Clawson, SarahJane Clawson, Keenan Shaun Braunberger, Kyla Maria Braunberger, and Kaylee Braunberger, brothers Shyrl (Janie), Gordon (Beckie), Roger (Darilyn), and sister Jana (Gary Dunn).
