Listen to Obituary

It is with a mixed bag of emotions that we announce the passing of Sheila H Jones on February 8, 2026. In a matter of 10 days, we went from a Dr. appt for a persistent cough to blood clots in the liver and lung to lesions on the liver and polyps on the lungs to being admitted to the oncology floor at McKay Dee Hospital to being air lifted to the University of Utah with cardiac arrest. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions for the family as we continue to wrap our heads around the events of the past 10 days. Not even enough time for the biopsy results to confirm the type and stage of cancer in her body. As Dad said in one of the many texts, “what a wild ride we are on.” Wild indeed! She was 74 years old.

Sheila H Jones was born to John Lloyd Heiner and Florene Butters on February 12, 1951 in Ogden, UT. She is the youngest of five children. She spent her childhood in Morgan, UT and graduated from Morgan High with the class of 1969. She embraced Morgan High School Spirit and danced as a Troyette. She was an avid class reunion attendee. As a young girl she worked at Como Springs in Morgan holding a variety of positions including Key Girl, Pin Setter, and Lifeguard. She was crowned Morgan County Fair Queen in 1968. She worked as a dental hygienist in her early years following high school. She met and married Thomas Allen Jones of Henefer, UT on January 22, 1971 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Allen and Sheila lived in Morgan prior to building their current home in Henefer, where they have resided for the past 50 years. Allen and Sheila have six children who were raised in Henefer, Brett (Henefer, UT), Blake (Clinton, UT), Alesha (Clinton, UT), Marciann (West Point, UT), Kendall (Hooper, UT), and Shaleese (Salem, CT). In later years Sheila became re-acquainted with water and was employed by the North Summit School District for 38 years. She taught the elementary swim program, lifeguard training, and WSI training. She also took on Pool Manager for a time. If you are a product of the North Summit School District during these 38 years and know how to blow bubbles or have an inkling of swimming skills, she is the reason. She may have even been your boss. Pool Manager was a great job for when the kids were young and could go to work with her and swim their hearts out especially during the summer months. Some of us lived at the pool. This is also where some of us learned to count money as we stacked quarters from the vending machines and closed out the day’s register. Following her employment with the North Summit School District she went on to work for Roy City, not getting out of the water business, she was a lifeguard and swim instructor from 2002 - 2017. If you are a product of the Roy Complex swim program during these years, she may have been your teacher. After her retirement in 2017 she continued to hang out at the pool with the grandkids. Mom was in a swimsuit more times than not. Sheila enjoyed her 13 grandkids, crocheting, weekly temple trips with friends, camping at Flaming Gorge, and being an independent busy body. Sheila was always on the go until her most recent years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her children recall her most prominent calling as Relief Society President, it seemed to be the most time consuming. Allen and Sheila enjoyed serving as service missionaries for the LDS Conference Center from 2014 to 2023. At the time of her death, they were serving as Temple Workers in the Ogden, UT Temple. They also enjoyed many trips to St. George with her sister Ruthie and brother-in-law Dick as well as Allen’s cousin Ben and wife Jill. Allen and Sheila’s travel adventures really took off when Shaleese married into the military lifestyle. They were able to visit Oklahoma, Texas (twice), Virginia, Georgia, and Alaska.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 55 years, Allen Jones. Her six children Brett Jones, Blake (Jodi) Jones, Alesha (Justin) Chatterton, Marciann (Rich) Feil, Kendall Jones, and Shaleese (Josh) Cruzan. Her sister’s RaeDell Giles (Morgan, UT) and RuthAnn Barlow (Midvale, UT). And her 13 grandkids.

Sheila is preceded in death by her parents John and Florene Heiner, her brother’s John Dee and Hal B, and her in-laws Howard and LuGene Jones.
