Scott Sommers

June 10, 1955 — May 5, 2011

Dan Scott Sommers, 55, died May 5, 2011 at his home of cancer.

He was born June 10, 1955 to Shirley Randall and Dan Sommers. He was raised in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School and Weber State College.

Scott served an LDS Mission in Dallas, TX. He married Pamela Nelson on April 1, 1989. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. They were later divorced.

The light of their life was their daughter Shantry Reese Sommers. While in high school he played many sports and received the 1973 Standard Examiner Athletic Award. He later coached football and baseball and taught mathematics at San Juan, North Summit and Morgan High Schools. He touched many lives both in and out of the classroom.

Scott started working at his grandfather's mink farm when he was ten years old and grew up loving to work with the mink. He later worked construction doing framing and cedar siding. He enjoyed hunting, boating, snowmobiling and spending time outdoors riding his horse with family and friends. He especially loved going to Lake Powell and Yellowstone.

Scott lit up the room wherever he went. His kind and generous nature showed in all he did for family, friends and acquaintances. He always made time to stop and chat with everyone. He focused on the positive in life, and ending every conversation with "Glad you got to see me."

He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley and his grandparents.

He is survived by his father Dan Sommers, brother Russ, and daughter Shantry.
