Ruth Zerull Kirk, born October 12, 1932, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 93, at her residence in Santaquin, Utah.
Ruth was born to Arno and Margaret (Timm) Zerull in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her father passed away when Ruth was just 13 years old. Her mother later married Curt Stoll, and together they raised Ruth and her siblings.
Ruth met the love of her life, Farrell W. Kirk, Jr., at a bakery where they both worked. The couple frequently reminisced about “rolling in dough” and how “their love was on the rise.” Ruth, at just 16 years old, had met the man she would later marry.
In June 1950, with Ruth’s blessing, Farrell served a mission in Finland. Ruth joined a group of women at church, all of whom were waiting for the return of their men, called HHMM, which stood for “How Many More Months?” Farrell returned in February 1953, and just a few weeks later, on March 12, 1953, Farrell and Ruth were united in marriage.
Together, Farrell and Ruth welcomed four sons—Rod, Keith, David, and Rees. They lived and traveled many places together, raising their boys while Farrell served in the military and attended dental school. Ruth was a florist for 12 years, and at age 50, she enrolled in cosmetology school. Ruth believed it was never too late to start something new. They lived all over the United States, including Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Oregon, before ultimately returning to their home in Morgan, Utah, where they retired. Farrell built a salon in the basement of their home, where Ruth continued to offer hair services for many years.
From their four sons and their spouses, 14 grandchildren blessed Ruth and Farrell over the years. They enjoyed spending their summers traveling to see grandchildren and welcoming them into their home for extended stays.
As their grandchildren grew and married, 27 great-grandchildren became part of the Kirk family, and this summer, the first great-great-grandchild will be born.
Some of Ruth’s hobbies included spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating floral arrangements, doing hair in her home salon, taking ceramics classes, decorating her home for the holidays, baking, reading, and traveling—most notably trips to Egypt and Italy during retirement.
Ruth was a positive example of living a Christ-like life. She could strike up a conversation with anyone she met, and her words and actions were always genuine. One always felt welcomed and at home with Ruth.
She and Farrell modeled a marriage that her grandchildren often complimented and hoped for themselves. Ruth would always emphasize that her marriage had its hiccups, as all do, but that in the end, she and Farrell loved each other deeply. Through that love, prayer, and their faith, their marriage grew stronger and stronger.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Farrell; her sister, Leone; and her sons, Rod and David. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers; her two sons, Keith and Rees; one great granddaughter; and her lifelong best friend, Norma Jarvis.
Ruth’s funeral service will be held at the LDS Church, 250 S 580 E, Santaquin, Utah, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
