Robert Lyle Porter

October 17, 1936 — May 30, 2025

Morgan

Robert Lyle Porter, 88, returned home to his sweetheart on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Lyle was born in Ogden, Utah, to Robert Porter and Gwendolyn Morgan Porter. He moved to Layton in the third grade and spent his youth helping his father on the family farm.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1954 and attended Weber State College, where he played football.

Lyle met the love of his life, Sheron Heiner, at Como Springs in Morgan. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 5, 1955, and shared 45 devoted years together.

Lyle worked briefly at Hill Field before dedicating himself to the family business, Como Fur Farm, where he and Sheron worked side-by-side until retiring in 1991. He loved the outdoors and said he was never meant to be an office worker.

Lyle was heavily involved in community activities where he announced all the events at the fair and served as the Grand Marshal in 2015.

In retirement, Lyle and Sheron spent the winters in Parker, Arizona, and summers at the family cabin in Lost Creek, making many treasured memories.

An avid outdoorsman, Lyle enjoyed both bow and rifle hunting, and especially loved fishing trips with his family. For many years, he organized week-long family fishing trips to soda Lake that became a cherished tradition.

Family was at the center of Lyle’s life. He rarely missed a ball game, recital, rodeo, or any event involving his children or grandchildren.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lyle served faithfully in many callings including Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum Presidency, Scouting, and as a counselor in the bishopric for over seven years. He also served more than a decade as a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

Lyle was known for his generosity, unwavering work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his children Kimlyn Porter, Mitch (Sandy) Porter, Kerry (Joni) Porter, Kyle Porter. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way), and his siblings, Kaylene Purcell and Duane Porter.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheron; two children Susand and Perry; daughter-in-law, Jenifer Porter; sister, Brenda Porter Ehlers; and his parents.

The family extends a special thanks to Rose and Lindsey at Inspiration Home Health & Hospice for their kind care.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kimlyn for the last two years of countless hours of loving service.
