Mary Brooks

February 16, 1920 — November 9, 2011

HOYTSVILLE - Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, returned home and joined her sweetheart of 64 years on November 9, 2011 at her home in Hoytsville, Utah.

Mary Louise McMillan was born February 16, 1920 in Center Creek, Utah to Ephraim and Jeanette Gibson McMillan. She spent her childhood in Park City, Utah and graduated from Park City High School. She married Elliot Otto "Springer" Brooks on November 23, 1938 in Coalville, Utah. They were later sealed in Salt Lake Temple on October 26, 1950. They were the parents of five daughters.

Mary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and together with her eternal companion served three LDS missions in Canada Winnipeg, Africa West, and South Dakota Rapid City. They also served for many years as temple workers in the Ogden temple.

Mary loved to quilt, and made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and no one ever left her home hungry. She enjoyed reading, camping and was happiest when she was with her family. In their later life, she and Elliot spent their winters in Quartzsite, Arizona where they enjoyed the company of many close friends.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses Doug and Louise Newton of West Valley, Utah; Pat and Bonnie Ovard of Henefer, Utah; Myron and Joy Mickelsen of Redmond, Utah; and Gerry and Ronda Okuda of Las Vegas, Nevada; 21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter and son in law, Jim and Donna Jenkins, two grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 12 noon, Hoytsville Ward Chapel with a viewing Monday, November 14, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. and 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
