Lowell Scott Francis was reunited with the love of his life, LaJean, on March 24, 2026, just 2 weeks after his 91st birthday. We know that he was grateful to be reunited not only with our mom, but with his parents, siblings, and many others who have gone before. Family was everything to Scott.
Scott was born on March 10, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Howard and Jessie Francis. He was raised in Morgan, Utah, where he spent his childhood learning the value of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to those he was close to. Scott graduated from Morgan High School, and went on to attend Weber State before enlisting in the Army.
He shared many stories of his youth, from working on the farm as a young boy, to creating adventures and mischief with friends, to riding bareback horses at night by the headlights of their trucks. He spent many days and nights herding sheep on horseback, always with a trusty dog at his side. Scott served many months with the Army in Korea, and for a time was stationed in California. Perhaps the greatest story he told was of his meeting and marriage to LaJean.
Scott married LaJean Marchant Shaw on May 10, 1958 after meeting at a dance on Christmas night at the old Town Hall in Henefer, Utah. Scott and LaJean were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 10, 1960. They shared 61 years of loving companionship, and their examples of unconditional love, compassion, service and support will carry on within the hearts of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Scott lived a full life. He ran a successful mink farm, and we have endless memories of working alongside our dad there. Scott loved animals, especially horses, and was always proud of his record-setting race horse, Briefly Noted. He found great joy in training and riding horses. Scott was active for many years in the Lion’s Club, where he developed lifelong friendships. Above all, Scott was an amazing dad. From coaching little league to daddy-daughter dates, our dad was always there. We always knew that family came first, and his greatest joy in recent years has come from the births of many great grandbabies.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in various callings throughout his life. Scott always had strong faith in the power of prayer, and this faith was a great comfort in his final days with us.
Scott is survived by his children: Jeffrey S. (Lucille) of Morgan, Mitchell S. (Tracy) of Morgan, G. Kirk (Adara) of Mt. Green, Wade T. (Jenny) of Clinton, Utah, and Gina N. (Chad) McInelly of Ogden, Utah. He is survived by 18 amazing grandchildren and 16 adorable great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaJean.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to those who have helped and supported Scott in the last several years, including the staff at The Family Tree of Morgan, and Corey and the staff of Quality Home Health and Hospice.
