Dale Winterton

April 29, 1959 — June 27, 2025

Mountain Green

Louis “Dale” Winterton, 66, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 27, 2025 due to complications from a pulmonary embolism.

Born to Bert and Ann Winterton on April 29, 1959, in Phoenix Arizona. There, he was Beech Nut Baby of the Year. Later, Dale’s family moved to Uintah, Utah where he grew up and made lifelong memories and friends. His love for cars, Lake Powell and adventure started as a teenager through scouting. He was an Eagle Scout and felt strongly that his sons should be also. He made it a requirement of them in order to get their driver’s license.

Dale graduated from Bonneville High School in 1977. On September 20, 1979, he married the love of his life and lifelong adventure partner, Linda Jones, in the Ogden, Utah LDS Temple. Together they built a full, loud, love-filled life with five incredible boys: Jake, Jarad, Andrew, Colby and Adam. If you ever saw Dale with his sons, you saw pride radiating from every inch of him. He didn’t just raise them, he did life with them. He taught them how to work hard and was about building strong capable men, and he succeeded. It didn’t end with his sons; he was a mentor and father-figure to many that he cared deeply about.

In 1987, Dale and Linda moved their family to Mountain Green. There, they found not just a place to live, but a place to belong. Over the years, they have built lifelong friendships that they will cherish forever.

Dale was employed at the VA hospital then later started his career with the US Postal Service for over twenty years. He enjoyed walking his mail route in Clearfield, Utah and making many bonds with the patrons he delivered mail to. Dale was able to qualify for early retirement from the Postal Service, which was awesome, because he already knew his next career change as a self-employed owner of Winterton Automotive, being a tow truck driver. He was proud partners with his son, Andrew, and they built their business together based on honesty and integrity.

Dale was “the guy” you wanted on your side. He was a man that stood for what he knew to be right. He loved his country and those that put their life in danger to protect it. Dale had a great respect for law enforcement and a lifelong friendship with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. If you were lucky enough to know Dale, chances are you either laughed with him, worked alongside him or were rescued by his tow truck.

One of Dale’s greatest joys was traveling and adventuring with his family which included Lake Powell, cruises, camping, scuba diving, rock crawling and yearly trips with his boys and their families. He was especially fond of Hawaii, Mexico, and all tropical destinations. In 2000, he was even able to accomplish his goal to obtain his pilot’s license. Dale was always up for an adventure, especially if he was with his family. Dale loved to be surrounded by his boys each day. He loved being a part of their world.

Dale’s greatest and most prized accolade of all was to be a grandpa. He loved watching his grandchildren and cheering them on at their games and programs. He was very proud of his twelve grandchildren, which includes ten handsome grandsons and two beautiful granddaughters. He shared a special bond with each of them.

Dale is survived by his wife Linda Winterton, his children: Jake (Erin), Jarad, Andrew (Kim), Colby (Kassi), and Adam. Also, his 12 grandchildren: Mason, Carver, Brock, Parker, Owen, Sam, Ruby, Kylee, Jackson, Wyatt, James and William.

Dale is also survived by his siblings: Kelly (RuthAnn), Lonny (Lynette), Crystal McElyea (Bart), and Suzy Poulsen (Mike).

He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Ann Winterton and sister Marilee “Pruny”.
