Lorin Cecil Tonks
July 21, 1934 – August 27, 2015
Lorin Cecil Tonks died peacefully August 27, 2015 at his home in Highland, Utah. He was born in Round Valley, Morgan, Utah to Cecil Tonks & Harriett Ellen Fenner. On June 21, 1957 he married his sweetheart Lillis Mae Jeppesen in the Logan Utah LDS temple.
He graduated from Morgan High School in 1952, where he served as Senior Class President and was instrumental in creating the large “M” on the hill above the cemetery. In 1961 he graduated from USU as a Landscape Architect. He worked in that capacity on the Ashley National Forest in Vernal, Utah for three years. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent for 35 years. He served in the LDS church as Bishop and as Stake President in the Morgan, Utah area for many years. Upon retirement, he served with his wife on LDS missions to New Zealand, Easter Island and Peoria, Illinois.
He was a man of great faith. The light of the gospel was always in his countenance. He always carried with him the missionary spirit and was kind and loving to all.
His interests were wide and varied – a jack of all trades, which included: Pen & ink drawings, bee keeping, farming, plumbing, carpentry, and gardens admired by all. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping, fishing, and finding jobs to do for other people. He loved everyone he met. His pride and joy were his family and taking grandchildren on camping trips and teaching them the wonders of nature.
Surviving are his wife, Lillis, two sons, Eric L. Tonks and Glade C. Tonks, Las Vegas, Nevada, two daughters, Becky (Dale) Rasmussen, Roosevelt, Utah; and Adele T. Anderson, Highland Utah, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Val, his parents and sister.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to family, friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness. We also express thanks to Hospice for Utah for their kind, loving care given to Lorin and family.
