Lafe Bowen

April 7, 1924 — December 18, 2012

April 7, 1924 - December 18, 2012 COALVILLE - Lafe Bowen returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 18, 2012 at his home in Coalville, Utah at the age of 88. Lafe was born on April 7, 1924 to George Edward Bowen and Katie LaRue Lamb in Devil's Slide, Utah. He is the fourth of nine children. Lafe married the love of his life, Louise Vernon, on October 27, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they began 60 years of life together. Lafe and Louise have one son, Stefan, and one daughter, LuAnn.

Lafe graduated from North Summit High School where he participated in and loved all high school sports. He was an avid North Summit Braves fan all his life. He is a World War II veteran, serving in the army in Europe from 1943 to 1946. He attended Brigham Young University. Lafe graduated from Barber College and was the "Coalville Barber" for over 50 years. He also spent 19 years working at Ideal Cement Company in Croydon, Utah.

Lafe was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop of the Coalville 1st Ward, as Stake Financial Clerk, as a faithful home teacher for many years, and most recently as sacrament meeting greeter. He was always aware of the needs of others, and provided an extraordinary example of rendering Christ-like service. First and foremost, he served out of love for others and lived his religion through example.

Lafe had many hobbies and talents including woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was always the first in town to have ripe tomatoes, and he loved sharing them with others. One of his greatest passions was fishing, and he spent many days wetting a line at Strawberry, in the Weber River, or in Chalk Creek. He especially loved tying his own flies, a talent which he shared with many of his grandchildren.

Lafe was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and his wife, Louise. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Stefan and Geniel Bowen and Roger and LuAnn Wilson both of Hoytsville, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Lorraine Vernon, Donna Vee Johnston, Marjorie Culbreath, and one brother, Harold Bowen.

The family would like to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate service and care of our Dad during his time of need.

Funeral services will be held at the Hoytsville LDS Chapel (1095 So. Hoytsville Rd., Coalville, Utah) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012, with a viewing prior to the funeral from 9:45 to 10:45 am. There will also be viewing on Friday evening, December 21 from 6 to 8 p.m., also at the Hoytsville Church.
