JoElla Hammons Wright, returned to her Heavenly Father on November 8, 2025. She was born on January 14, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to William Perry Hammons and Mildred Ruby Shuman.
Mom grew up in many states across the country finally settling in Morgan Utah.
She graduated from Morgan High School and attended Weber State College.
Mom was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony and love for the gospel and its teachings.
She married the love of her life Leland John Wright June 26, 1947. They were later sealed in the Ogden Temple. He passed away on November 8, 1978.
Mom was an active member in the church and held several callings in different wards and stakes. She also was active in the community, being president of the Morgan PTA for two terms, held offices in the American Legion Auxiliary and Morgan Jaycees. Mom’s first job was being a telephone operator here in Morgan City. She also worked for Hill Air Force base.
Mom was married to Grant Francis for 24 years until his passing. They enjoyed traveling and served a mission in Minnesota.
She had a love for animals, being outdoors and a great passion for family. She always boasted her drivers license expired on her 99th birthday as she loved to drive especially when it was raining. Some of Moms favorite pastimes were reading, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her daughter Marla Hyde and her husband (Craig), her sister Nancy Mikesell, Grandchildren Travis and wife (Leslie Hyde), Tana and Husband (Jason) Durrant, Raelyn Hyde, Tami and (Kelly Maser). Great grandchildren Colton Hyde, Aubree Hyde, Meagan and husband (Scott) Winter, Maycee and husband (Aaron) Thomas, Levi Durrant, Mallarie Durrant, Ryder Durrant, and Milly Durrant. Great great grandchildren Andrew, Savannah, Oakley and Hayzlee.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, son Craig, sisters Phyllis (Dee) Lee, Shirley (Don) Creager, and brother-in-law Abbott Mikesell.
Craig and Marla wish to extend a most gracious thank you to the Hospice individuals for the care she received over the last 23 months from nurses Corey Blonquist, Shauna Garn, and Tina House.
We are especially grateful for our daughter Tana Durrant, granddaughters and other grandchildren and neighbors who gracefully gave of their time and efforts to keep Mom comfortable and make it possible to stay at home with us all.
A viewing will be held Saturday November 15, 2025 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at Walker Mortuary, 45 W 200 N, Morgan, UT 84050. A graveside will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the South Morgan Cemetery.
