James (Jim) Brooks Taylor, age 75, passed away on January 3, 2026, at his home in Milton, Utah.
Jim was born on March 6, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, to Don and Ethel Taylor. He spent his early years growing up in Henefer, Utah, and attended school in Coalville before moving to Morgan, where he graduated from Morgan High School in 1968. A natural leader, Jim was elected Senior Class President during his senior year. He was active in sports and developed a lifelong love of basketball, which he enjoyed throughout high school and into his college years.
On April 23, 1971, Jim married the love of his life, Penny Peterson, in Morgan, Utah. Shortly after their marriage, Jim proudly joined the United States Navy. The newlyweds packed up their belongings and moved to Long Beach, California, where Jim was stationed. A few months later, he was deployed overseas during the Vietnam era. Jim served honorably in the Navy from 1971 to 1976, and his military service helped shape his strong work ethic, loyalty, and lifelong dedication to service.
After completing his military service, Jim began a career with Smith’s, where he worked for over 40 years. He took great pride in his work and was well known for his dedication and the many meaningful relationships he built over the years.
Together, Jim and Penny shared 54 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, commitment, and love. They were blessed with four children: Jeremy Taylor; Brook Taylor; Dani (Ian) Williams; and Emily (Will) Petty.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He found his greatest joy in time spent with his five grandchildren - Gilead, Roman, Alice, Adeline, and Emery - often taking them on Ranger rides up the creek and never missing an opportunity to give a hug. When he wasn’t with his family, Jim could often be found puttering outside in his garden, tending to his plants with the same patience and care he showed to those he loved. Through these simple moments, whether in the garden or with his grandchildren; he created memories filled with love, laughter, and warmth that will be treasured always. His steady presence, quiet strength, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Penny; his children and grandchildren; his brother, Robert Taylor; and his sister, Jeanne Comer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ethel Taylor; his sister, Anne Wilde; and his brother, Mark Taylor.
