Ivan Dean Rich passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on July 29, 2022. He was born in Ogden, Utah on February 23, 1934, to Edgar Dean and Pearl Rich. He graduated from Morgan High School and completed two years of college at Weber State prior to being drafted into the Army on November 13, 1956 at the age of 22. He spent 18 months in Panama and was honorably discharged on November 13, 1958. He married his sweetheart, Dena Carter, on June 11, 1960; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1970.
Dad loved to be outdoors and spent countless hours hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping with his family and close friends. These are hobbies he loved throughout his entire life. He never walked by a quaking aspen tree without carving his name into it. He always had a camera in his hands looking for a "Kodak" moment. His favorite past time was going for long drives in the car looking for wildlife, visiting friends and seeing landmarks, and he always had his sweetheart with him. His life was his family. He loved those around him and he had a Christlike light that allowed him to show compassion and kindness to everyone he met. He brought great comfort to those around him. He never criticized or judged others. He only gave encouragement. He had a talent for friendship as many of his friends can tell you. He could turn a stranger into a close friend with one conversation. Those closest to him can tell you, he showed them love beyond compare.
He loved his Heavenly Father and served faithfully in his ward as a Bishop and as a counselor in the bishopric 2 separate times. He also served on the high council for the Morgan North Stake. He served those on both sides of the veil and we know he is having a beautiful reunion with his loved ones in Heaven right now. Especially his daughter, Krista.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, one sister, and his youngest daughter Krista (Abe) Wangsgard. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, four children: Clay Ivan Rich, Clint (Shannon) Rich, Blake (Shay) Rich, Collett (Shayne) Watkins, 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 1 spoiled cat, Gerald.
