Gerald Malan

July 29, 1934 — November 23, 2016

Gerald (Jerry) K. Malan, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away suddenly on November 23, 2016, at age 82.

Jerry was born on July 29, 1934 to Alton B. and Martha Ann Malan, in Ogden, Utah. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Ogden High School. Jerry married Bernice Briggs Robinette in 1954. Together they had three children. They later divorced. On April 1, 1967, Jerry married the love his life, his sweetheart, his Trish, and his hubba hubba, Patricia Lee Bowman. Together they had four children. Jerry opened and was the proud owner of a dancing restaurant named The Flair in Riverdale. His wife’s beautiful voice was the nightly entertainment. Jerry also worked at Hill Air Force Base as an airplane mechanic and in the plastic shop before he and his wife found employment with Union Pacific Railroad. The day Jerry got the job he called his wife and said, “I got a job on the railroad, and I got you one too.” He couldn’t stand to spend one minute away from her.  On the railroad, Jerry was a supervisor and his wife was an outfit manager. Together Jerry and Patricia retired from the railroad at a young age and invested in rental properties.

Anyone who knew Jerry, knew his love for his family, especially his wife. Up until his passing, he always had his wife by his side as he told her how much he loved her and how beautiful she was. He was constantly telling his children and grandchildren of the love he had for them. He was always so complimentary. Jerry had a passion for cooking. He cooked every Sunday afternoon for his children and grandchildren. As he cooked, he hummed around the kitchen while smiling and winking at his loved ones. It was no coincidence his oven stopped working the weekend before his passing. Jerry had an infectious smile that could light up anyone’s life and was always grinning from ear to ear. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and spent more time with them than most get the chance to. He always had so much energy and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a person who lived his life with no enemies. He will be deeply missed by so many.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia. His children, Kay (Steve) Salveson, Mitch Malan, Dani (Dee) Hadley, David Malan, Selena Stam, Gerald K. Malan, Jr., and Adam (Jennifer) Malan, all of Utah. His sister, Launa (Jim) Lewis of Utah. 28 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. His in-laws Randall and Leah Bowman. His brother Dean (Donnette) Malan, sister Darlene (Rex) Patterson, and grandson, Cameron Malan.

The family would like to express thanks to the staff of McKay Dee Hospital, Legacy Home Health, and Morgan Ambulance.
