Buzz flew off into the wild blue yonder Oct. 5, 2009.
He was an accomplished pilot, wonderful singer and force to be reckoned with, in road construction. He has told his last story. A big man with a big heart, he was born to George and Lena (Wahlert) in Hillrose, CO. He worked from the time he could walk, first on the beet ranch then to the tall timber of Oregon, he joined the Operating Engineers at age 17 then the Army where he served in England and returned home to marry Amaryllis Phillips. They had two children, Craig and Catherine. With Ray Kizer Const he started building many of the big highways in Oregon and California. After her death and moving to Redding he sang his way into the heart of Peggy Snethen (Williams), and along with Kim and Julie, had 40 wonderful years together.
He belonged to the Enterprise Flying Club or you could find him singing at a piano bar or at Shasta Speedway cheering on Roger Gannon. As owner of Mittry GEB and GEB Sons he was a mentor to Duane Boyer and active in construction until he retired. He took great pride that Craig continued the legacy with his own company.
He died at home in Salt Lake City with his family surrounding him. A celebration of life will happen in the future. He leaves behind his wife Peggy; children: Craig (Lynette), Catherine, Kim (Duane) Boyer and Julie (Erwin) Rainak. Also, grandchildren: Shelby, Tamara, Ami, Christopher, Aaron, Allison, Deven, Kyle and Markus and 11 great-grandchildren.
Condolences may be sent to Peggy at 680 E 100 S Apt 105 SLC, Utah 84102
