Fay Beverly Hansen passed away on July 8, 2025 in Orem, Utah at the age of 90 years from causes related to cancer.
Fay was born in February, 1935 to Franklin Devey and Florence Amelia West in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was blessed with three siblings, two older sisters, Flo and Fern, and a younger brother, Floyd. We are confident that her siblings, along with her parents, welcome her home at her passing. Fay’s mother passed away when Fay was just four years old, and she was reared by her step-mother and older sisters. She grew up in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City and cherished her memories of helping her father deliver milk in the early morning hours. She graduated from Granite High School and soon met and fell in love with Norman Leon Hansen II.
Fay and Norm were married just before Fay’s nineteenth birthday in 1954 and began their lives together following Norm’s enlistment in the US Navy. They were blessed with a son, Norman and later a daughter, Karen. As career Navy family, Fay and Norm lived throughout the United States stationed in Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Illinois, California, and Georgia. Following their retirement from the Navy, Fay and Norm settled in beautiful Mountain Green, Utah, where they lived for the past fifty years.
Once Fay’s two children were started in school, she returned to school herself, earning her nursing degree while stationed in Georgia. She worked as a nurse wherever they were stationed and retired from McKay-Dee Hospital after twenty-five years serving in the pediatric ward.
Fay was an avid quilter and worked on hundreds of quilts with her quilting friends in the Morgan Valley. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in her area, a faithful Relief Society member, and skilled needle worker.
Fay may best be remembered for her compassionate service throughout her life to all her neighbors and friends. She was awarded the People magazine Volunteer of the Year Award for work with infant children abuse prevention.
She is survived by her son Norman (Mary Jo), and daughter Karen (Steven), four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Her family is especially grateful to her Mountain Green friends and neighbors for all their support, love, and caring throughout the years.
A viewing will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Highlands LDS Church House, 5378 W Old Hwy Rd, Mountain Green, UT 84050 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The family will hold a private family graveside.
Let us focus on all the nice memories of Fay and know that she is now resting with her family on the other side and not suffering here. We may all see her again and have great hope in knowing Heaven’s joy.
