Ellen Mamanakis

May 5, 1924 — October 6, 2013

MORGAN - Ellen Mamanakis passed away from our lives on October 6, 2013 at the age of 89. She was born in Kenilworth, Utah to Velma and George Elbert Nelson. She lived in Ferron where her family ran a service station and cafe.

She was in the first graduating class from South Emery High and was very proficient and took many awards in playing the Clarinet. She moved up to Salt Lake after graduation and worked. She helped support her family in Ferron until they moved up to Washington Terrace.

She then moved to Ogden and Married George Michael Mamanakis. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. They bought a home in Clearfield then later moved to Syracuse. There they raised a family of five children. In 1994 they moved to Morgan. She was member of Beta Sigma Phi, Clearfield Literary Guild, PTA and enjoyed being a member of DUP for over 50 years. She made time to fulfill many Church Callings, working with scouts, young women and relief society. She also worked for many years at Hill Air Force Base. She loved to sew dresses for her girls and made beautiful quilts. She always made sure that each one of her children and most of her grandchildren received a quilt of some kind. She enjoyed working in her gardens; flower and vegetable for many years. She dearly loved to raise raspberries and shared them with many. We watched her complete loyalty to her husband for 61 years.

She was preceded in death by her eternal companion, George Mamanakis, her parents, brothers Richard and Dale Nelson, one son Elwood and 2 grandchildren, Michael Allred and Matthew Mamanakis

She is survived by her brother Lincoln (Shirlee) Nelson, Athleen (Ken) Cravens, Janice Matthews and four of her children, Linda (John) Willerton, Katie (Rob) Allred, Gary (Kandis) Mamanakis, Carol (Glen) Mecham and Bud Elliot, George and Ellen's dearest friend, the love and care he gave Ellen in these last years, words cannot describe the love that we have for him. She is the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson.

We would like to give a special thanks to Summit Home Care and her caring nurse Brenda who always gave hugs to everyone and all those who loved her at the Family Tree Assisted Living. The kindness and laughter made all who was involved feel like a family.
