Ellen was born June 5, 1931, in Hammond, Indiana to Samuel Edward Carroll and Mary LaMar Cloward Carroll. After waiting for Bob Earl Calderwood to return from serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she married him on May 18, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ellen graduated from Morgan High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Weber State University. Ellen’s teaching assignment was at West Weber Elementary. Upon returning from Nauvoo she served 15 years in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple for a total of 25 years of service. While she had many pursuits and passions, her real vocation was as a mother and homemaker. Family was at the heart of her life.
