Don Burt Heninger of Kaysville, Utah passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, surrounded by members of his family. Don Burt was born in Ogden, Utah on June 12, 1937, to Van Elliot Heninger and Oce LoReen Hull. He was the youngest of their five children. After moving to California for a few years during his childhood, his family settled in Sunset, Utah.
Don Burt was always known by family and friends with both of his names. His distinct widow's peak, charming smile, infectious laugh and positive personality attracted many to him throughout his life. He was a hard worker, leader and motivator, including being a male cheerleader at Davis High School, and remodeling multiple homes. His mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had to be somewhat delayed, since he worked hard to support his older brothers on their missions before he could have his turn.
After his mission to Northern Germany, he married his lifelong sweetheart Janice Thomas on December 21, 1961. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Weber Academy (now Weber State University) and the University of Kansas, graduating in 1967 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. They both wanted a large posterity and became the parents of 12 children, with all of the accompanying joys, adventures, and life challenges that a large family entails. Doctor Don became a beloved dentist for many years, especially for children and families, in Sunset, Morgan, Ogden, Parowan and Clearfield, Utah.
He had a lifelong love of being out in nature, camping and going on hikes. He would often drag family and friends along with him on his many adventures, especially on his famous overnight trips down Zion’s Narrows. He enjoyed performing in many ward road shows and plays, including Oklahoma and The Music Man. He sang in ward choirs, with the musical group Promise and the Kaye Starr Singers. Besides his mission to Germany, he also served five more senior missions with his wife, Janice, including Minneapolis Minnesota, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, Temple Square, Nauvoo, and the Ogden Bishop’s Storehouse. They served for four years as temple workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple. In his later years, he increased in his love of learning and the strength of his testimony of our Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Don Burt is preceded in death by his parents, his sister LaVan Gates, brothers Brent, Gary, and Gordon, his daughters Faralee Shupe, and Dena Dawn Heninger, and grandson Benjamin Heninger. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Thomas, his children Troy (Denise), Keith (Michelle), Faline Loveland (Brad), Thane (Tara), Kourosh Haroni (Pam), Camille Winter (Dan), Brice (Chelly), Ryan, Shelese Hill (Katie), and Amanda. He has 41 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, with more on the way.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you take your families out for a big scoop of ice cream.
