It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Tueller Markwith, 80, of Schuylerville, New York. Carolyn passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 in Portland, OR, surrounded by her family and loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carolyn was born on August 24th, 1945, to Jack LeRoy Tueller, Col. USAF Ret., and Marjorie Rogers Tueller in Phoenix, AZ. Throughout her childhood Carolyn lived in several places throughout the US and England, making many friends across all walks of life.
A 1968 graduate of Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Carolyn found her calling in life as an educator and advocate for children, shaping young hearts and minds. She taught first grade in Brawley, CA from 1968 - 1976 and later was a teacher's aide in Cambridge, NY from 1999 - 2011. She had a unique ability to make all students feel truly seen and deeply loved, particularly focused on the most vulnerable.
When Carolyn first drove through Schuylerville, NY in 1977, she immediately knew it was the village she wanted to call home. During her 47 years there, she built deep, lasting bonds with her friends and loved ones. Carolyn was very spiritual, held an intense love for her Old Saratoga Reformed Church family, and took great joy in having her beautiful voice echo in the choir loft with her congregation.
A lover and fierce defender of animals, she tirelessly cared for many pets and stray/wild animals in need throughout her life. When asked about her remarkable ability to attract the downtrodden and neglected, she would proudly respond with, “Just lucky I guess.” A very close second to animals was her passion for the Green Bay Packers–prominently displayed all over her house, her car, and in the Green and Gold she wore everywhere. A more dedicated football fan the world has never known.
She adored her two grandsons, Sawyer and Barrett. Despite living 3000 miles away, she spent many holidays and every summer with them for 23 years – going to school events, sports, vacations, and attending church with them at Westside United Methodist Church. She taught them to love animals, sing songs, pray especially when times got tough, and have a tender heart. Their memories of snuggling stuffed animals, reading books, watching the Wonder Pets, and going to the Dollar Store together will live in their hearts forever.
Carolyn is survived by her beloved daughter Wendy (Josh) Fedderly, son Ryan (Amanda) Markwith, sisters Rosanne (Norman) Nielson, Sharman Tueller, Janine Tueller Mickelson, brothers Shayne (Pam) Tueller, Stephen (Camille) Tueller, and proud “Mimi” to grandsons Sawyer and Barrett Fedderly. Carolyn is also survived by her many dear nieces and nephews.
We would like to deeply thank the med techs and caregivers at Regency Park for their incredible love and affection to Carolyn during her 11 months there, routinely going above and beyond in their support of her already intense daily needs. The friendships she found there were profound. We also appreciate the kind support of Brighton Hospice.
On Dec 6th, there will be a viewing at 10:30am at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, UT and funeral at 12pm in South Morgan Cemetery in UT, with a Celebration of Life immediately following. Consistent with her ability to make dear friends everywhere she went, there will also be Celebrations of Life in Schuylerville NY, Attica NY, and Portland OR, dates TBD. Per her request and directly connected to how much joy she got from the Green Bay Packers, all are encouraged to wear green and gold instead of black to the events.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Carolyn’s favorite charity, the ASPCA.
