CarDell Mortensen passed from this life on the morning of Sept. 30, 2026, in Morgan, Utah. He was the son of Benjamin and Verlyn Mortensen.
He spent his childhood on a farm in Bear River City, Utah, where he really enjoyed growing up in a rural lifestyle. He married the love of his life, Joan Simmons, on Feb. 3, 1962. They have enjoyed a storybook marriage over the course of 64 years.
CarDell worked at the IRS Service Center for 37 years — retiring as the computer branch chief. He traveled a lot for his job and made many friends during his career.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a guest services missionary with Joan for six years.
He was elected as president of the Utah State Computer Managers Association and served for two years.
He was a member of the Army National Guard for eight years.
He was a charter member of the Round Valley Golf Club and always enjoyed a good game of golf. He loved fishing with his buddies, as well as camping at his property in the Uintas. His favorite hobbies were woodworking, outdoor cooking and tying some interesting flies that the fish had never seen before.
He will miss all his friends at The Morgan Lions Club, where he served twice as president and was a member for several decades.
He loved and cherished a whole passel of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and they will miss the weekend cookouts.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, his sister, DonNell (Glade) Anderson and his five children — Melinda (Blake) Beesley, Jileen Anderson, Marci (Tim) Chapman, Jennifer Mortensen and Casey (Nikki) Mortensen—as well as his 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five of his siblings: Benjamin, Verlyn, Vear, MarTell and LaRee.
Services will be held at the Latter-Day Saint Milton Church on Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. A viewing will take place beforehand at the same church on Oct. 4 from 5-7 p.m. as well as before the service on Oct. 5 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will take place at the South Morgan Cemetery on State Street in Morgan following the services.
