Bertie Smith

November 6, 1928 — March 4, 2012

MORGAN - Bertie Ricks Smith, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home of 46 years on March 4, 2012. Bertie was born on November 6, 1928 to Arthur Warren Ricks and Gladys Jenette Huskinson of Sugar City, Idaho. She married William Lloyd Smith in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 23, 1950.

She graduated from Sugar Salem High and spent the next two years attending school to become a secretary. After her graduation she was employed at the local dairy creamery in Sugar City. This is where she caught the eye of a handsome salesman named Lloyd Smith, whom she turned down on his first attempt on asking her out on a date. Persistence paid off and it led to 52 years of marriage to the love of her life.

Bertie was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in various callings including Young Women's, Primary Teacher, Relief Society Presidency, and was a name extractor for the temple. One of her final responsibilities was to provide bread for sacrament each Sunday and even on the day of her passing she fulfilled her calling. She will be missed greatly by everyone that knew her. She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She had a great love for crafts and crocheting and always had a special handmade gift to give to others. She prided herself with her beautiful flower beds that were filled with color, love, and hummingbirds. Bertie was an amazing cook and you were always welcomed into her home with a hot delicious meal. She had hundreds of recipes that will be cherished and passed on for generations, still knowing that it will not be as quite as good as if she had made it herself. She kept a beautiful home that was always filled with love and laughter and it was a favorite place for her children and grandchildren to create life long memories. Bertie was a breast cancer survivor and a proud member of the Wasatch Bosom Buddies, and apart of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved her family and the knowledge she would receive through genealogy and was dedicated to learning and documenting her family tree.

Bertie is survived by her sons, Michael R. Smith and the late (LeeAnn Child) Ogden, Ut. , David Smith Ogden, Ut.; daughter, Lorelie (Corey) Jenson Draper, Ut.; grandchildren, Jared Blaylock, T'Ann (Tyler) Payne, Andrew and Ashley Smith, Kobe Jenson, Jessica and Lindsay Quick, Kambria, Jackson, and Brynelle Smith; great grandchildren, Jayden and Aliyah Blaylock, Kash and Ryker Payne.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband William Lloyd Smith, daughter Marion Smith-Quick, and both of her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1 pm at the Morgan Stake Center 355 N. 700 E. Morgan, Ut. Friends and family may call at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan Thursday from 6 to 8 pm and Friday at the church from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm prior to services.
