Alan David Turner was born to LeRoy Ernest Turner and Ruth Love Turner on June 6, 1943. He was the youngest of two sons that graced this family. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Granite Jr. High and then graduated from Granite High School in 1961. Two weeks after his graduation he entered Basic Training at Fort Ord, CA for his 6 months active duty training with the US Army Reserves. Upon returning, he enrolled at Utah State University and began his studies there. From Jan 1963 to Feb 1965 he served an LDS Mission to England in the Southwest British Mission. He served in several leadership capacities and developed a love for one of the countries of his ancestors.
Upon returning from his LDS Mission, he resumed his studies at Utah State University with a major in Industrial and Technical Education and a minor in vocal music. He was a member of the Delta Phi Kappa Fraternity and Chorus. The chorus put on many performances to capacity crowds each year visiting such places as Oregon, Washington, Missouri and Mexico City.
Alan graduated from the USU in 1969 where he taught pre-engineering and architecture for 20 years at Bonneville High School in Ogden, UT and then an additional 17 years at the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College in Ogden, UT. He loved teaching these subjects in both high school and college and often remarked that he was able to play all day long for those 37 years. He applied his minor area of study as he led church music plus played the piano and organ in numerous callings as well.
He met his wife, Linda Jane Smith at USU and was sealed and married to her in the Salt Lake City Temple 2 weeks after graduation. They were blessed with 6 children. In 1971 due to finances from being a teacher, he entered the US Air Force Reserves where he received his commission as a Second Lieutenant two years later. He enjoyed his many tours around the world, visiting countries such as Guam, Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, Germany and England as well as all across the entire United States including Hawaii and Alaska. He retired as a Major in 1994 having served for over 33 years in the military. In his last 5 years he served as a deputy squadron Commander at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA.
Always an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many positions. Scouting was a huge love of his. He served in almost every position from the local ward unit up to the council level where he served for over 18 years. He served in various leadership positions in scouting for about 50 years. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Church leadership callings included many Melchizedek Priesthood positions in the ward and stake.
He loved serving the Lord and served Him his entire adult life. He loved missionary work, serving two years in England, then also serving in Zimbabwe, Africa with his wife Linda for 18 months. They were the Country Directors over three countries doing humanitarian work. Following his missionary services in Africa, he served for two additional years in the Inner-City Mission in Ogden, UT at the Eccles Park Ward. He and Linda also served as ordinance workers in the newly remodeled Ogden, UT Temple for many more years.
He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and served in many positions there, including being on the national board serving as an Area Vice President.
Alan and his family enjoyed the mountain man era and hobby, and spent around 40 years camping at Fort Bridger, WY with the families over the Labor Day Weekend each year.
In Sept 2024 he was married and sealed in the Ogden, UT temple to his 2nd wife, Connie Joyce Park. He and Connie have served faithfully together in the Ogden, UT Temple as ordinance workers since their marriage until their release in March 2026 due to his illness.
Together they have 12 children, 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He loves his large family and the many pleasant memories they have shared together.
His activities have also included serving in the local veterans groups, including serving as the chaplain. He loved participating in many honor guard ceremonies each year for the military veterans.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Irene Turner, his brother, LeRoy (Roy) Turner, and his wife Linda Turner. Alan is survived by his 2nd wife, Connie Turner, his children, Laura Radle (Bart), Lynette Parry, LeAnne Tracy (Aaron), Alicia Hadley (Nathan), Alana Woodbury (Nate) and Ash (Alison) Turner and his 6 step children, John, Rob, Tonya, Tim, Trishelle, and Tiffany.
Alan David Turner completed his life’s work on this earth on Apr 14, 2026 at his home surrounded by his wife and family. He was a valiant and dedicated servant of the Lord and will be greatly missed. Viewing will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 5378 W Old Hwy Rd, Mountain Green, UT 84050 on Thursday Apr 23, 2026 from 6-8 PM and on Friday Apr 24 from 9-10:30 AM with the funeral following at 11AM.
