Echo

On Thursday, June 9, 2022, Frank Cattelan, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 94.

Frank was born on May 30, 1928 in Diamondville, Wyoming to Bert Cattelan Sr. and Edna Smith Cattelan. He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1947 where he helped his team win two state basketball championships. Frank enlisted with the 8th Division of the 4th Infantry during the Korean Conflict. During deployment, he met his love, Josefine (“Fina”) Mann, while stationed in Germany. They married on October 12, 1953, in Nevada. Frank and Fina settled in Echo where they raised three beautiful daughters: Jane, Jean, and Taunia.

Frank was a savvy businessman running the Echo Café for over 60 years and Frank’s Gas Station for 25 years. His Café was a popular spot for locals and travelers alike to stop and enjoy a nice juicy hamburger and fries! His Gas Station grew to become a Motion Picture hot spot and backdrop for many still photographers. Prior to running his businesses, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad and Devil’s Slide Cement Plant. Frank proudly advocated for historical restoration and preservation and was always willing to share his wealth of knowledge. He made sure to quiz his grandchildren on the 50 states and capitals, the United States Presidents, and key events in history. Frank had a very faithful and proud passion for Echo. He was rarely seen without his “I Love Echo” pin. He is a legend in the local history books. Frank assisted in restoring the Echo Church. You could always see a grin on his face whenever the bell would ring. He also helped secure installation of the Pony Express Monument near Pulpit Rock and sat on the Historical Society board to help ensure that future generations would be able to indulge in Echo’s rich history. Frank was quick to volunteer his time and effort to help make sure Echo’s residents had clean and safe drinking water and other important resources. In his limited free time, Frank enjoyed fly fishing on the small little creeks catching Brookies with his handmade bamboo pole.

To our beloved Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa you will be missed. (Baci Italiano)

Frank was preceded in death by his parents (Bert and Edna), his siblings, his wife (Josefine), and his daughter (Jane Harper). Frank is survived by (Richard), Jean Paskett (Steve), and Taunia Staples (Kory). Frank also is survived by seven very spirited grandchildren: Gina (Jeremy) Shuman, Kristen (Wes) Staples, Chad Harper, Britney (Cody) Comer, Breanna (Christoph) Samek, Ryan (Whitney) Harper, and Aubrey (James) Staples. Additionally, Frank had 10 great-grandchildren that brought a smile to his face: Shyley, Alyssa, Jordan, Kendrie, Kayzlee, Alexie, Kayden, Adeline, Bronson, and Hudson.
