Sherolyn Jenkins

June 19, 1938 — December 26, 2017

Sherolyn Rogers Jenkins, life-long resident of Morgan, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away December 26th at the age of 79. She will be remembered for her “attitude of gratitude”, her radiant smile and her abiding faith.

Sherolyn was born June 19, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Thelma Dickson and Curtis William Rogers. She was the youngest of 6 children. She had an idyllic childhood growing up in the beautiful landscape of Morgan, Utah. She spent her early years exploring the hills behind her home, playing sports and swimming at Como Springs.

At the age of 13, she was stricken by polio, one of the most dreaded diseases of her time. She fought for life in an iron lung, paralyzed from the neck down with only the use of her left hand. As her movement slowly returned, she was able to walk with the help of crutches. She felt her life was spared not only because of the quick action of doctors but also because of the priesthood blessing she received as she was rushed to the hospital. Sherolyn was a woman who trusted the Lord.

She graduated Morgan High School and attended Weber State College where she was voted “Friendliest Girl” on campus. She later attended the University of Utah and received a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. Sherolyn excelled in school and had a true love of learning. She was both smart and more importantly, wise.

While attending the U, Sherolyn met the love of her life, Larry Jenkins. After a short courtship, they were married in Hailey, Idaho on March 18, 1967. She worked at Hill Air Force Base following their marriage. Last March, they celebrated 50 years of marriage together.

Larry and Sherolyn were parents to one daughter, their beloved SueAnn. Of all the roles Sherolyn played in her life, being a mother was her favorite. Sherolyn and SueAnn shared a special bond that was evident to all who knew them.

In addition to being a mom, Sherolyn became a grandmother to twins, Sophia and Madeline, triplets, Aiden, Luke and Evan and finally, Nicholas. She cherished her close relationship with each of them.

Sherolyn was a devoted member of the LDS church, in which she served in many capacities during her life. She was child-focused by nature and loved working with Primary children. She felt such admiration for her great-grandmother, Aurelia Spencer Rogers, who organized the LDS Primary. Sherolyn also served as Relief Society President for eight years. During this time, she was unable to drive and limited in her ability to move but she didn’t let this stop her. She visited ward members in her shiny red golf cart and was fondly known as the “golf cart Relief Society President”. Later in life, her husband, Larry, was baptized into the LDS faith and they were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Sherolyn was as patriotic as they come. She was proud of her family’s history of military service as well as Larry’s. She didn’t miss an opportunity to express her appreciation for our country and her community. To her, Morgan was heaven on earth because of its beauty and its people, many of whom touched her life with their friendship and acts of service.

Sherolyn loved parades, picnics and hometown celebrations. One of the highlights of her later years was being chosen, along with Larry, to be the Grand Marshals of Morgan’s 4th of July parade.

Sherolyn believed that life is beautiful and full of abundant blessings despite unexpected trials. She inspired all of us with her unconditional gratitude and courage in the face of tremendous adversity. She leaves a hero’s legacy.

Sherolyn is survived by her daughter, SueAnn Jenkins Harris (Neal) and grandchildren of Farmington, Utah. She is also survived by her sister, Florence Rogers Sowell (the late Wesley Sowell) of Pocatello, Idaho; sister-in-law, Beverly Jenkins (the late LaMont Jenkins) of Farmington, Utah; brother-in-law, John Jenkins (Rochelle) of Evanston, Wyoming.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dean Jenkins; her parents, Curtis and Thelma Rogers; sisters: Pauline McQuown (Frank), Kathryn Whittier (Robert), Marjorie Tueller (Jack) and brother, Bernell Rogers (Marjorie).

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life Saturday, January 6th, 12:00 p.m., at the Field Street LDS Chapel, 240 South 300 West in Morgan. Viewings will be held at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North in Morgan on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery.
