Sandra Allen

July 11, 1938 — May 29, 2015

Sandra Jean Allen (Mason), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, rode away to join those who have preceded her on May 29th, 2015.

Sandy was born on July 11th,  1938,  in Emmitt, Idaho to Maime and Gerald Mason.  Growing up she spent time in Idaho City and Las Vegas. While in grade school she was active in dance and frequently perform as a contortionist.  She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1956.

Sandy loved the rodeo and even rode bare back broncs and bulls as well as roping and barrel racing. In 1956  she was the Rodeo Queen for the Napa Stampede. She also helped to start the
Las Vegas Women's Pro-Rodeo Circuit, along with the Idaho Girls Rodeo Association. Sandy competed in the Miss Idaho contest in 1957. She married her first husband, Dwight D. Odermott, in 1960 and they were divorced in 1963. She married her second husband, Robert Jesse Allen, in 1964,  and together they worked at Antelope Island taking care of the Ranch.  After the ranch was bought by Anschutz, they moved to Castle Rock up Echo Canyon. In 1987 they began working at the Echo Information Center and were managing it by 1989, In the almost 30 years she was there she became a self-made historian on Echo Canyon, knowing all about the Pony Express, and the Mormon Trail. She was recognized for help with writing the book "Pathway to Glory: The Pony Express and Stage Stations in Utah".

Sandy is survived by her two sons: David (Raquel) (Brandy) Allen, Robert (Lisa) Allen; her Grandchildren: Joshua, Nick (Arianna), Kelsey (Shawn), Destiny, Elizabeth (Chris) Johnson, and Stacey.  Also by her great-grandchildren:  Matthew, Austin, Tyler, Dezire, Alex, Hunter, Mckenna, William, and Corbin. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Allen, her parents, and her brothers Punky and Ronnie.






Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Henefer Chapel. A viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
