Nyla Banner

October 9, 1942 — August 17, 2015

Our loving mother, grandmother, and sister Nyla Wilcock Banner, age 72, passed peacefully away on Monday, August 17, 2015.  She was born on October 9, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vernile and Ola Wilcock.

After graduating from East High School, she attended Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart, Earl J Banner.  They were sealed for eternity on June 14, 1962 in the Salt Lake temple.

Earl and Nyla were blessed with 7 children and 20 grandchildren.  Throughout their marriage, the family lived in San Jose, California; Kennewick, Washington; Centerville, Utah; and eventually Morgan, Utah.

Nyla was a source of comfort and inspiration to her husband, family and those who knew her. Charitable to the core, she spent her days serving her family, church and community.  Her one wish was to be remembered as being kind.    She used her many talents of baking, sewing, organizing, and teaching to bless those around her.

Later in life she served with her husband as a Public Affairs missionary on Temple Square.  She served a full-time Public Affairs mission with her husband in the Germany, Frankfurt mission supporting the East Europe area.  After the passing of her eternal companion, Nyla served another Public Affairs mission in Birmingham, England.

She is survived by her children: Brian (Shauna) Banner: Kennewick, WA; David (Liz) Banner: Santaquin, UT; Denise (Chad) Hawkes: Morgan, UT; Nathan (Elisa) Banner: Tuscon, AZ; Laurel (Garret) Orr: Morgan, UT; Rebecca Banner: Centerville, UT; and Kristin (Carlos) Jovel: Sugarland, TX.  She was preceded in death by her sweet husband, parents, and two granddaughters.

There will be a viewing held at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan, UT on Friday, August 21, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm.  There will also be a viewing prior to the funeral on Saturday, August 22 at the LDS “Rock” chapel, 10 W. Young Street, Morgan, Utah.  The viewing will begin at 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. and the funeral will begin at 10 a.m. with an interment following at the Centerville Cemetery.
