Max Dawson

Max Dawson 86, returned home to his Heavenly Father, Wednesday February 4, 2015 surrounded by his family.

Max was born May 29, 1928 in Henefer, Utah, the seventh child of Meredith (Met) Andrew Dawson and Ellen Toone. Max grew up helping on the family farm and herding sheep with his dad. He attended school in Henefer and North Summit.

In March of 1946, Max enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam. After returning home, he met and married his sweetheart, Betty Jean Smith. They shared 66 years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan and lived for 14 years. They returned to Henefer where they resided for 17 years in the old family home. In 1980, Max and Betty built their current home in Hardscrabble.

Max worked as an auto mechanic for Sun Oil Co. and Moore Motor Co. He retired after 27 years from Hill Air Force Base, as an industrial radiographer for the Minute Man and Peacekeeper Missile programs. In retirement, he worked at his favorite job, delivering flowers for Val's Flowers.

Max enjoyed spending time with his family outdoors camping, fishing and hunting. He had a passion for wood working and made many items that have become treasured heirlooms. Max never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. Max's favorite past-time was caring for the love of his life, Betty.

He was involved in many organizations including Morgan VFW, Lions Club and Search and Rescue.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Morgan; children: Terry (Corky) Sweet, Ogden, Utah; Andy (Joy Lyn) Dawson, West Point, Utah; and brother Dale (Jackie) Dawson, Midvale, Utah; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by daughter Dawn Dawson Carter, his parents and seven siblings.

A viewing will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 from 6-8p.m. at Walker Mortuary, Morgan, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Porterville 6th Ward chapel 2700 South Morgan Valley Drive with a viewing prior from 9:45-10:45. Interment at the Henefer Cemetery.
