Marvin Dawson

September 18, 1942 — November 9, 2017

MORGAN – Marvin Orson Dawson, 75, passed away surrounded by family on November 9, 2017 at the Ogden Regional Hospital.

Marvin was born on September 18, 1942 to Jeston and Marie Dawson in Coalville, UT. Marvin was the youngest of eight siblings. He grew up in Henefer, UT and attended and graduated from North Summit High School. He attended Weber State University working towards a teaching degree. He worked as a surveyor for the State roads and Union Pacific Railroad where he went on to become a conductor and worked there for 37 years. He loved to ride the trains and always talked about it and the adventures he had with his friends.

As a teenager he worked part time at a mink farm and developed a love for mink ranching and in 1975 was able to purchase his own mink farm in Porterville, UT. In 2017 he earned the award “Fur Man of the Year.”  He loved spending his time at the ranch with his wife, son, and grandsons.

He dated Patricia Stuart during high school and they were later married on Nov. 1, 1963 in Elko, NV. They had two children both born on the same day, exactly one year apart. Family was a big part of Marvins’ life, especially his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

When Marvin was not at the mink ranch, he was fishing or mowing lawns.  He taught each grandchild how to drive by taking them to the fields behind the farm. He truly enjoyed every moment he could get to teach his grandchildren anything or help with any of their projects. He made sure everyone’s needs were met before his own. He would be up early to make sure everyone had their coffee and would see that all the grandchildren made it to school on time. Family was everything to him.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Pat, of 54 years; two children: Darin Dawson (Tina Tyteca Dawson), and Danae (Todd) Anderson both of Morgan; five grandchildren: Stuart Rollins (Lauren Leishman), Cooper Rollins (Jordyn Jones), McKinzee (Tyson) Gordon, Olivia (Renzo) Conti, and Jade Anderson; one great-grandchild Ava Gordon. Also two brothers: Seth Earl (Shirley) Dawson and Kenneth Dawson; brothers-in-law: Dean Smith, Darryl Smith, Wendell Stembridge, Roger Stuart, Ron (Denise) Stuart, Stan (Julie) Stuart ; sisters-in-law Ruth Dawson, Lana (Poke) Preece .

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Fred, Harlen; sisters: Gwen, Donna, and Ila; sister-in-law Wilma Dawson.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Morgan LDS Rock Church, 10 W. Young Street. Viewings will be held on Monday, November 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Morgan and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
