LuDean Hugie

December 1, 1929 — November 1, 2017

Mountain Green - LuDean Smith Hugie, age 87, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.  LuDean was born December 1, 1929, in Hyrum, Utah, the daughter of Lavon Alva and Ruby Mauchley Smith.

LuDean grew up in Hyrum and graduated from South Cache High School.  On August 4, 1947, LuDean married and was sealed for time and eternity to her loving husband Fred John Hugie in the Logan Temple.  Early in their marriage they lived in many places, but settled and made their home in Mountain Green for the last 52 years.  She loved the mountains and trees in the Highlands.  LuDean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She had a deep love for her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Her most prized accomplishment in life was her family.  She devoted her life to her husband and nine children, and she loved them deeply and unconditionally.  She was respected and loved by all her family.  She was always there to help out and her home was a safe haven at any time.  Her help with the grandchildren was appreciated, and they brought joy and light into her life.  She will be missed dearly by her family.  Mom had many talents and she devoted much of her life teaching and sharing them with her family and others.  She was an excellent seamstress and made many quilts, baby blankets and clothes for others.  She was a wonderful cook and made the best pies in the world.

She worked outside the home for a few years working at a sewing plant and as a high school lunch lady in Morgan.  After her husband retired, they went to many craft shows where she sold many of the crafts she made.  She loved dancing, gardening, poetry, music, doing puzzles and watching Antiques Roadshow.

LuDean is survived by four sons and three daughters, Jon (Karen) Hugie, Syracuse; LuAnn (Joseph) Pentz, Lost Creek; Kim (Kathy) Hugie, Wanship; Denise (Wayne) Price, Idaho Falls; Tresa (Tony) Jones, Morgan; Paul Hugie, North Ogden; David (Heidi) Hugie, Mountain Green; daughter-in-law Shanna Hugie, Hyrum;  son-in-law Larry Pentz, Lost Creek; brother Estle Smith, Hyrum; and sister LaRae Jorgensen, Pleasant View.  She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Joy Smith, son Terry Hugie, daughter Glenda Pentz, and daughter-in-law Paulette Hugie.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at noon at the Mountain Green Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Mortuary.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the McKay-Dee Hospital staff for the gentle, kind care that they provided to our mother.
