Larry Jenkins

August 12, 1936 — June 25, 2017

Larry Dean Jenkins, long time resident of Morgan, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away June 25, 2017, at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans home at the age of 80.

Larry was born to Henry and Prim Rose Jenkins on August 12, 1936 in Ogden, Utah. He spent his early childhood years in Taylor, Utah. Larry fell in love with the outdoors in Twin Falls, Idaho where he spent the majority of his youth.  His teenage years were spent exploring the Snake River, Shoshone Falls, and working at Nat Soo Pah hot springs.
He cherished his close relationship with older brother, LaMont, younger brother, John and his loving mother, Prim Rose. Larry graduated from Twin Falls High School and immediately enlisted in the Navy.  He loved his country and felt at home on the sea.  He served on aircraft carriers during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Larry met his beautiful wife, Sherolyn in 1966 while she was attending the University of Utah.  They were married in Hailey, Idaho on March 18, 1967 and were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. Larry and Sherolyn made their home in Morgan, Utah.  Years later, they welcomed only daughter, SueAnn, to their family. Larry was a devoted and loving father to SueAnn. Their close relationship was always a source of strength throughout both of their lives.
Larry worked at Hill Air Force Base and farmed his land in Morgan.  He loved to work with his hands and was a skilled mechanic. He was also fond of animals and showed kindness to all - especially those in need.  He lovingly cared for his wife Sherolyn, who faced physical ailments from polio for most of her life.

Larry dearly loved his life and home in Morgan. The simple tranquility of the Weber River in his backyard, the warm association with friends and the feeling of community were an important part of his life.  However, his family and grandchildren were his greatest source of joy.

He had a passion for snowmobiling, fishing, boating and the simple beauty of nature and everyday life.

Larry's later years were difficult as he faced multiple health problems.  His family wishes to thank the many people who cared for Larry, especially the kind members of the Morgan community, and the staff at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans home, where Larry lived and was cared for during the last two years of his life.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sherolyn; daughter, SueAnn Jenkins Harris (Neal); twin granddaughters, Sophia and Madeline; triplet grandsons, Aiden, Luke and Evan and grandson Nicholas of Farmington, Utah; brother John Jenkins (Rochelle) of Evanston, Wyoming and sister-in-law, Beverly (LaMont) Jenkins of Fruit Heights, Utah.

He was preceded in death by parents Henry and Prim Rose and brother, LaMont.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity.  Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life Friday, June 30, 2017 at noon at the Field Street Chapel, 240 South 300 West, Morgan, UT.  Friends and family may call the Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan, UT, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery.
