James Hayes

James Eugene “Gene” Hayes, 90, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at his home in Porterville, UT surrounded by his family.

He was born May 4, 1926 in Porterville, UT to James William and Bazzilla Jane Florence Hayes.

On July 7, 1948 he married Nora Ardell Carter.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple May 12, 1972.

He attended Morgan County Schools and served in the US Army during World War II.  He joined the family business EA Hayes, brick masons, and continued his own business after moving to Morgan.  He had served on the Morgan School board and was a member of the Morgan Lion’s Club.  Gene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as a Bishop.  He was instrumental in the construction of the Porterville Church that was built on the property he was born on.

He is survived by his wife, Ardell; daughter, Jill (Lagene) Allred; son, Chad (Chris) Hayes; daughter-in-law, Gwen Hayes; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.  Also surviving are four sisters and one brother, Pat Peterson, Peg Allen, Penny Smith, Cole Porter and Nadine Smith.

He was preceded in death by one son, Chet Hayes.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan 6th Ward Chapel, 2700 South Morgan Valley Drive, Porterville, UT.  Friends and family may call at Walker Mortuary, 45 West 200 North, Morgan, UT on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment will be in the South Morgan Cemetery.
