Deborah VeticaAugust 28, 1954 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 62)
Deborah Ann Vetica, 62, went home in the early morning of Saturday, May 6, 2017. Her children had whisked her away from her Morgan home to her sons' home in the Salt Lake area after finding she was terminally ill with stage 4 lung cancer. She gracefully fought for her remaining four months and did complete some treatment at Huntsman Cancer Institute. She was lovingly cared for by her family and the amazing team of experts through Hospice, who seemed to fall in love with her spirit, wit, and humor, just as we have.
Debbie was born on August 28, 1954 to Theodore and Mildred Mitchell. She married Leo Tristan Vetica, the love of her life, in 1975 and together they had three children; Venessa, Cody and Dustin Vetica. After struggling from the premature loss of her husband and love, she developed her broken self into a true matriarch.
During her working years she wore many hats from veterinarian technician to Morgan County Clerk to Head Negotiator of the Union at the IRS. She wasn’t scared to put up a fight defending her children or her co-workers or anyone in need. Equal rights for all and "Power to the People" were phrases she taught to her grandchildren. She also worked at the Ogden Nature Center as a volunteer after work to help rehabilitate birds of prey because she was drawn to them. She was a dutiful employee, and loving force in the lives of her friends and family.
Our mother was youthful to the end. She could run any one of her kids ragged as we tried to keep up with her. She loved traveling, and was always up for an adventure. It is a fact she visited Alaska four times and even sought out a captain with hooks for hands to take us out on a winter cruise. Some of her stories don’t seem possible, but She has a witness to back that story.
She is survived by her tribe of five sisters, three children, and seven grandchildren. Her pure heart will always be an example to us. Her understanding and kind words will be missed. We love you and thank you for dedicating your life to us. We may be a little lost without you, but we will find our way, just as you did.
Services will be held 11:00 am Monday May 15, 2017 at the South Morgan Cemetery.
Flowers may be sent to 515 W Island Road Morgan, Utah.
